The Okaw Valley boys’ golf team continued their strong season by defeating Shelbyville and Windsor Stewardson-Strasburg in dual matches last week.
The Timberwolves scored a 201-221 victory against Shelbyville Aug. 31.
Miles Harlin shot a 46 to lead Okaw Valley.
Tyson Montgomery and Trey Hall each shot a 48, and Rase Bennett carded a 65.
Chase Creviston and Aiden Williams round out the scoring with a 62 and 59, in that order. Read More

Ignoring a chronic condition will not make it go away, and suffering is a poor management technique. If you live with a long-term health condition, why not learn how to more effectively manage it and live an active and fulfilling life?
Although the specifics of managing each health condition vary, the skills for managing most chronic conditions are quite similar. Take Charge of Your Health is a program designed to help you become a better health manager. Tessa Hobbs-Curley and Cheri Burcham, family life educators for University of Illinois Extension have teamed up to provide this program online. This interactive series will be offered weekly on Wednesday’s starting September 15 and ending October 20 from 1 until 3:30PM CST. Read More

Stomp Out SARC

A benefit for Barbara Vail will be held on Saturday, September 25 from 4-9 pm at the Sullivan VFW. There will be a fried chicken dinner from 4 to 6 pm with carry out option available. Tickets are $10 for the dinner and $5 for kids. Tickets can be purchased at Sullivan Senior Center or Fast Stop in Sullivan. Please buy your ticket before the benefit. There will be a silent auction from 4 pm to TBA and a live auction at 6 pm. There will be southern gospel music performed by State of Grace and special guest Greg Ridenhour from 7 pm to 9 pm. Donations for auction items are still being accepted, please contact committee members. To make a monetary donation, there is an account set up at First Community Bank in Sullivan. Sadly, Barb lost her battle with sarcoidosis. Barb and Bob have been a very active part of the Sullivan community. Proceeds will still go towards medical and final expenses.

Gary Robert Emel, 65, of Sullivan passed away surrounded by his family Thursday, September 2, 2021, in the University of Chicago Hospital. Gary was born to Stanley and Charlotte Emel on June 13, 1956. He married the love of his life, Betty Jo (Carlyle) Emel, May 8, 1976. Read More

Mason Point has its first pumpkin patch thanks to Grant Roehrs who is one of the grounds maintenance staff. The pumpkin patch is just one of many projects Grant has undertaken to make the grounds more attractive. Watching the drama unfold in the pumpkin patch has been a welcome diversion for the residents who have been mostly confined for over a year due to Covid. Read More

President George W. Bush’s Address to the Nation on September 11, 2001

On the evening of September 11, 2001, United States President George W. Bush addressed a nation that earlier that day witnessed the deadliest terrorist attacks in world history. That morning, hijackers took control of four airplanes, ultimately crashing two into the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in New York City and another into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. A fourth hijacked plane crashed in a field near the town of Shanksville, Pennsylvania after passengers and crew attempted to regain control of the plane from the hijackers. All passengers and crew on board all four flights died on September 11, and thousands of others on the ground lost their lives that day as well. It was under those conditions that President Bush delivered the following speech to a shaken nation. Read More

Harvest to Home is Set for Oct. 8 and 9 at the Illinois Amish Heritage Center

Harvest to Home returns to the Illinois Amish Heritage Center on October 8 and 9. Hours for the event are from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8 and from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9. Harvest to Home returns to expanded activities and demonstrations, including glass blowing, at the Center.
The purpose of the show is to teach attendees how crops were grown and harvested during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Amish continue using many of these methods in their farming operations today. The show continues to expand, and the 2021 show promises to be the biggest show yet. Read More
