After suffering a devastating loss in the Lincoln Prairie Conference championship, the Sullivan Redskins regrouped and refocused on the future, not the past. They came out seeking revenge against those who got in their way. They ended the week with back-to-back thrillers on Friday and Saturday.

The first game of last week was on the road against the Bombers. While A-O has had struggles this year, they are a team that have been known to come up with tenacity and surprises. Knowing this, the boys got right to work in the first quarter jumping out to a seven point lead. The Bombers chipped away at that lead, bringing the game within three at the half. After a short breather at halftime, the Redskins brought back their own arsenal with a 22 point third quarter. They maintained that lead for the rest of the game, securing the victory 60-52.

This week, CUSD #305 launched its 7th annual district-wide book club, ‘Knightly Reading: A Family Literacy Event’. The youngest household member of K-5th-grade students, all across the district, received a copy of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. This is the second book in C. S. Lewis’s classic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia, which has captivated readers of all ages with a magical land and unforgettable characters for over seventy-five years. This year’s program allows for 4 weeks of reading enjoyment for students and families, and there are plenty of activities planned at school to enrich the reading experience.

James (Jim) Daniels, 84, of Bloomington, IL, peacefully joined his Heavenly Father on February 9, 2026, surrounded by his family. A well-known and loved resident of the Bloomington and Sullivan areas for over 60 years, Jim was born on January 6, 1942, to George William Daniels and Bessie (Hunter) Daniels. He graduated from Ramsey High School in 1959.

Betty J. Born, 99, of Lovington, passed away 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Bridle Brook Assisted Living & Memory Care Community in Mahomet.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Lovington. Burial was in Keller Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials may be made to Lovington First Christian Church.

Touch-screen voting came to Moultrie County elections in the spring, giving electronic or traditional voting as an option, all with updated centralized tabulation equipment. County Clerk Georgia England explained that election judges will learn the new system’s operations during a March 8 training session.
Additional flood damage on Moultrie County roads and bridges increased to $180,000, county engineer Jeff Birch told the Road and Bridge committee on February 8. That amount was added to the total county damage claim filed earlier with the Illinois Emergency Services and Disaster Agency.
The Sullivan Lady Redskins ended the basketball season with a tough 43-40 loss to Cerro Gordo Bement on February 8. It was the first game of Regional play at Tuscola, and the Broncos were hungry.
Okaw Valley went wire to wire in front of a sold-out crowd Friday night, ultimately falling 69-62 versus the Sangamon Valley Storms. A pair of well-timed runs by the Storm to end the first half and begin the second half proved too much to overcome.

Candi Hoffman of Lovington was named student employee of the month for December/January at Millikin University. Hoffman is a senior in the Millikin adult degree completion program, PACE, office, and was a nursing major and graduate of Mt. Zion High School.

Foods containing fat were often blamed for weight gain and heart disease. As a result, many people tried to eat “low-fat” foods whenever possible. Today, health experts understand something important: Some fats are not only healthy, but they’re also essential and have a positive impact on overall health.
Why do healthy fats matter? Fat plays several important roles in the body. It provides energy, protects organs, and helps your body absorb certain vitamins. For example, vitamins A, D, E, and K require fat for proper absorption. Without enough healthy fat, your body may not get the full benefit from nutritious foods. Healthy fats also help you feel full after eating. This can reduce overeating and help with weight management.
What types of healthy fats should you include in your diet? The healthiest fats are called unsaturated fats. These fats are usually liquid at room temperature and come from plants and fish. Monounsaturated fats, when used in place of saturated fats, can help our bodies lower “bad” LDL cholesterol and support heart health. High blood levels of LDL can lead to plaque buildup in artery walls, significantly increasing the risk of heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.

Moultrie‑Douglas 4‑H has announced that Kate Bushue, of Sullivan, is the recipient of the 2026 Illinois 4‑H Gardening, Agriculture & Food Access Scholarship, sponsored by the Illinois 4‑H Foundation. This prestigious award includes a $1,250 scholarship, which Kate will receive at the Illinois 4‑H Celebration of Excellence Awards Banquet on April 10 at the I‑Hotel in Champaign.
Kate is a sophomore at Sullivan High School, a 10‑year 4‑H member, and an active participant in the Moultrie County Shining Stars 4‑H Club in Sullivan. Her 4‑H leader is Erica Lehman. She is the daughter of Jill and Josh Bushue, both of Sullivan.
Her dedication, leadership, and long‑standing commitment to 4‑H have made her a standout among youth across the state.

On Tuesday, February 3rd, the Mid-Illinois Senior Services hosted their monthly ‘Dine with a Doc.’ Their guest speaker was Jake Lehr, Senior Program Manager for the Central Illinois Alzheimer’s Association, Illinois Chapter. This highly engaging guest informed attendees about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, from early detection and warning signs, therapies, and other forms of support, to healthy brain habits. Lehr clarified that dementia is an umbrella term for loss of memory and other thinking abilities severe enough to interfere with daily life, including the following: Alzheimer’s, vascular, Lewy body, frontotemporal, others, such as Huntington’s, and mixed dementia, which may have more than one cause. Lehr shared that everyone experiences Alzheimer’s differently and that Illinois is the first state in the nation to enact legislation mandating both state-regulated and private insurance plans to cover FDA-approved treatments, medications, and necessary diagnostic testing for Alzheimer’s disease.

Moultrie County Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for their 2026 house build.
Applications can be picked up at the MCHFH Office located at 8 South Washington Street, Suite 102 in Sullivan, or during operating hours at the Habitat ReStore located at 401 South Hamilton Street also in Sullivan, during operating hours.
Applicants must be in need of safe, affordable housing, have the ability to pay an affordable monthly mortgage payment, and be willing to partner with Habitat, providing “sweat equity” hours during the building of the home.
