Timberwolves Take Third

The Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team split a pair of games this past week to place third in the Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament.
The Timberwolves lost to Villa Grove/Heritage last Tuesday but knocked off rival Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond Saturday to take third in the LPC Tournament.

Spring LLC Community Choir Rehearsals to Begin

Does the cold and snowy weather have you singing the blues? It’s time to change your tune by joining the choir! Preparation for the spring season of the Lake Land College Community Choir begins on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday nights in the Lake Land College Theater from 7-9:30 p.m.
All singers age 18 and older are welcome to participate and no audition is required. The choir includes college students as well as area residents, forming a group of approximately 45 mixed voices. Read More

Jury Trial Underway for Alvan Booths in Moultrie County

A Moultrie County jury trial started February 3, 2020 for Alvan Booths, 33, of Mattoon who was charged with attempted murder, home invasion and aggravated battery February 4, 2019.
Sullivan police responded to a shots fired call to 804 W. Hunter the night Feb. 4 where Otha Phillips had been shot in the neck.
Booths appeared with court appointed attorney Todd Reardon while Tammy Wagnor led prosecution along with State’s Attorney Tracy Weaver. Read More

Call 9-1-1 If You Can, Text if You Can’t

The Coles Moultrie County Emergency Communications Center now has 9-1-1 text capabilities
The Charleston based CECOM 9-1-1 is now live with Text 911. This is something that the state has mandated.
The Text 911 has been tested and CECOM is up and running and can now receive Text for 911 emergency calls. Read More

ALAH Knights Winning Streak is Broken

After winning seven straight games, the Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team dropped two Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament games.
The Knights lost to Okaw Valley 45-40 Saturday and Cumberland last Tuesday to place fourth in the LPC Tournament.
Despite defeating the Pirates 53-46 a week earlier, the Knights lost to Cumberland 59-55. The game was back and forth. The Knights took a 26-20 first half lead, but the Pirates cut the lead to two in the third quarter.
In the fourth, Cumberland was able to tie the game at 55 to send it to overtime. Read More

Coleman Benefit Set

Music by Identity Crisis and the Feudin’ Hillbillies will provide live entertainment for the Jessica Coleman Breast Cancer benefit beginning 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 22 at the Sullivan V.F.W.
Besides an afternoon filled with music at the Route 32, Sullivan V.F.W. Club, attendees can participate in a silent auction, auction, and 50/50 drawing while enjoying a cash bar and food available from the V.F.W. kitchen.

Photo furnished Royal Readers 2019 Miss Sullivan, Madison Wall (above) and 2019 Junior Miss Sullivan, Katilyn Kirby were able to read to several classes at Sullivan Elementary School over the past couple weeks. They are wanting to promote reading to elementary age students.

ALAH Girls Team Dominates Decatur Lutheran

After dropping games to Central A&M and Tri-County, the Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond girls’ basketball team throttled Decatur Lutheran.
Against the Lions on senior night Monday, the Knights jumped out early with an 18-8 lead and did not look back.
ALAH held Decatur Lutheran to five or less points in each of the last three quarters for the 56-19 win.
Kirsten Corum totaled 13 points, three rebounds and two steals, and Jolynn Barbee contributed 11 points and three rebounds. Read More

The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
