The average enrollment per grade at Sullivan Schools is about 84 students.
Our largest class is 7th grade, which currently has 109 students.
There are a number of challenges that arise when one specific grade has approximately 30% more students than the typical class that comes through.
The number of sections of each subject offered varies. During the fall semester, there were five sections of Literature and Language offered for 7th grade students, creating an average class size of nearly 22 students. Read More

Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance Hosts Benefit for Fisheries

Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance will host their second annual Banquet at the Sullivan VFW on February 22, 2020 with 100% of the proceeds going to improve the fisheries and fish habitat in Lake Shelbyville!
The doors open at 4:00 p.m.. with dinner starting at 5:00. The banquet is being hosted by the Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance, a group that is focused on improving the fisheries at Lake Shelbyville. Tickets will be available online http://tinyurl.com/lsfha2020, Chip’s Marine in Sullivan, IL and the Lake Shelbyville Visitors Center in Shelbyville, IL.

Sullivan Girls Bounce Back Beating St. Teresa

After losing to St. Teresa in overtime in the championship game of the Central Illinois Conference Tournament Thursday, the Sullivan girls’ basketball team bounced back to defeated the Bulldogs in a regular-season CIC matchup on senior night Monday.
After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Redskins went into the half trailing 21-19.
The Bulldogs extended that lead to 35-31 heading into the fourth quarter.
Unlike in the championship game where Sullivan was able to grab the lead for good, the Redskins took a 41-39 lead after Lilly Null hit two layup drives.
St. Teresa tied the game with 2:10 left in the game.
Emily White knocked down a 3-pointer with just less than two minutes to play to retake the lead 44-41. Read More

Engineering Scholarship Offered

The Central Illinois Chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers is sponsoring a $1500 scholarship to a qualified central Illinois high school senior.
To be eligible, the candidate should be accepted into an engineering college or a junior college with an equivalent engineering academic schedule and are encouraged to have a minimum ACT score of 28 or SAT equivalent. Read More

Area Student Makes Dean’s List

Zoe Ray, a freshman from Sullivan was among students placed on the Dean’s List at Greenville University for the Fall 2019 semester.
Greenville University is a four-year accredited Christian liberal arts school with more than 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students. Founded in 1892 and affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, the college is located in Greenville, Illinois, 45 miles east of St. Louis.

The Okaw Valley girls’ basketball team split two Lincoln Prairie Conference games this past week.
OV defeated Cerro Gordo/Bement on Senior Night Thursday, Jan. 20, but lost to Tri-County, Monday.
Against the Broncos Thursday, OV came out on top of a back-and-forth game during Senior Night.
The lead changed several times in the first half, but a 14-7 third quarter run for OV gave them breathing room. Read More

Bethany School Supt. Marilyn Bailey explained if the district continues $116,164 annual deficits the eduction fund will be in debt $1,257,453 by July 30, 1999. Before a crowd of 20 people the school board voted to proceed with a property tax referendum.
The Bethany Mustangs beat Illiopolis 62-49 in the opening round of the tournament at Blue Mound. Phil Ozier led the Mustangs with 15 points, Kevin Bowser scored 14 points along with 10 rebounds and Adam Gurchieck chipped in with 11 points.
Despite injuries and a ten point deficit at the half the Sullivan Lady Redskins beat the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals 55-50. Sullivan hit 6 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter with Bobbi Bone shooting 4-4 and Allyson Glazebrook 2-4 totaling 12 points for the night. Carrie Bennet led the Redskins with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Read More

The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
