Every three to five years, the Sullivan School District participates in a Goal Setting Workshop.
This process was recently completed and included the participation of the Sullivan School Board, administration, faculty, community members, and students.

New Website in Operation for ALAH School District

Atwood-Hammond Junior High Social Studies teacher, Angie Hollingsworth announced her future retirement at the opening of the ALAH School Board meeting, scheduled for the 2023-2024 school year.
Hollingsworth has been in Atwood-Hammond for the past 26 years and overall has been teaching for 30.
“We appreciate what you’ve done for the district and the students. I’m very grateful for all you’ve done for the district and our students...You will be missed for sure, but I am glad we get to have you for four more years,” said Superintendent, Shannon Cheek.
“She is a great asset at the junior high,” stated Atwood-Hammond Principal, Kristin Nall. “She’s made so many relationships with the families there and bridged the gap with home and school. And she helped transition me in my position. You will be extremely missed, ” she added. Read More

LLC to Host Challenge

Nothing other than an academic face off, where teams are pitted against each other in eight subject areas in order to take home the Academic Challenge regional championship title.

Richardson Family Benefit

A benefit for the family of the late Rusty Richardson begins at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29 at Sullivan VFW Post 6410.
Rusty worked at Hydro Gear lived in Bethany and left wife Quinn and five children to go on without him. All proceeds go to assist the family.
Dinner catered by Niemerg’s Steakhouse is served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and includes ham and fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, homemade noodles, cole slaw, rolls, butter and dessert. Carry out is available. Meal tickets should be purchased by the Feb. 8 deadline at the VFW cafe or by calling Libbi Feruson at 217/855-0833.
You do not have to participate in the meal to attend the benefit.
There is a gun raffle, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, regular auction plus a night of fun and music by DJ Ed Ballinger.

Okaw Valley Defeats Neoga

After having its home game against Sangamon Valley postponed on Friday because of inclement weather, the Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team turned around and hosted Neoga in less than 24 hours.
The Timberwolves defeated the Indians 63-51.
Stats for this game were not available.
OV is scheduled to enter the Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament at Arcola starting Friday.

Redskins Drop Close One to Rams

The Sullivan boys’ basketball team lost its Central Illinois Conference opener last Tuesday, then had its Friday game against Warrensburg-Latham postponed because of inclement weather.

A Moving Tribute to the American Spirit Presented to Sullivan School Board

Sullivan High School student, Blake Thompson presented his winning Voice of Democracy speech at the Sullivan Community Unit 300 Dist. board meeting. Thompson competed and won the district competition and will be presenting his speech at the state competition in Springfield in February.
SES teacher Jennifer Hobbs coordinated the event, and SHS English teacher Becky Lawson was his sponsoring teacher.
“His speech on what makes America great is a moving tribute to the American spirit,” commented Sullivan High School Principal Daniel Allen.
The board discussed the changes to the district’s Course Description Book for the 2020-2021 school year, which were approved.
The Sullivan Elementary School building is over 20 years old and the floor tile has been starting to show some wear and will need replaced. Read More

Two Wins for Okaw Valley Girls Basketball Team

The Okaw Valley girls’ basketball team defeated Cumberland and Villa Grove this week to improve its overall record to 8-16.
Thursday, Jan. 16, the Timberwolves picked up a Lincoln Prairie Conference road win against Cumberland.
After falling behind 10-6 in the first quarter, OV went on a 16-4 run in the second quarter for a 22-14 halftime lead.
The Timberwolves had a strong third quarter then held on the rest of the way for the 44-34.
Bailey Bennett and Mia Harris led OV’s scoring with 13 points each.
Kate Jeffers also hit double digits with 11 points, while Lexie Bartimus netted five points. Read More

The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
