Lost Photo

At approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan 14 Darrell Betzler had gathered photos like the one above preparing to leave his home on McClellen St. in Sullivan.
One photo showing the stormy sea while Betzler was stationed on a tanker refueling the Seventh Fleet flew off his car and is missing.
If anyone finds the missing photo in the 300 block of McClellen Betzler is willing to pay a reward for its return. Please call 217/254-1251 with information.

Titus Farm Land Transferred

Green Lincoln Partners of Wilson, Arkansas took possession of 654.45 acres of the Winifred Titus Sentel trust which was recorded January 6, 2020 at the Moultrie County Courthouse.
This was the largest acreage purchased during the Busey Farm Brokerage sale of the seven tracts of land in the 928.1 acre Titus Farm located north of the city of Sullivan.
Green Lincoln Partners, Inc. December 30, 2020 trustee deed acquisition was mortgaged for $5,200,000 by Prudential Insurance Company of America.
Metro Communications owner Zak Horn purchased 273.65 acres north of the city limits for $3,236,840.
The land transaction on tract 3, 203.66 acres has yet to be recorded. The purchase price of $2,352,073.
The $10,971,883 sale total of the Titus Sentel Trust farms goes to the city of Sullivan less expenses, as directed in the Winifred Titus-Sentel will.

Fender Named to Ohio Wesleyan Dean’s List

Anna Fender of Sullivan, IL, has been named to the 2019 fall semester Dean’s List at Ohio Wesleyan University.
To earn Dean’s List recognition, Ohio Wesleyan students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes. Read More

The intersection of CR1425N and 1575E was impassable Saturday morning. Asssitant Fire Chief Larry Edwards reported the Sullivan Fire Protection District was called to the location east of Jonathon Creek Christian Church at 8:09 a.m. Jan. 11 where they assisted the dive team in rescuing the vehicle and its driver from high water. The Dodge van stalled in about two feet of water at the intersection as the driver was en route to transport members of the Amish community. Moultrie County Dive team member Jason Smith (left) prepares the van for towing as Moultrie County Sheriff Chris Sims discusses the weather with the driver. No injuries were involved with Sullivan Fire District and Dive Team personnel clearing the scene at 9:49 a.m.

Windsor High School will be hosting its Homecoming Dance on Saturday, January 25th at the high school. Coronation will be at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. This year’s theme is Hawaiian Luau. Recent Obituaries: Alice Jones

Alice Jones

Alice V. Calhoun Jones, 84, of Bethany, passed away 2:05 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2020 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.

Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Faith Lutheran Church, Sullivan, with Pastor Glenn Strohschein officiating assisted by Jerry Jones. Burial will be in Marrowbone Twp. Cemetery, Bethany. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Reed Funeral Home and one hour before the services Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Faith Lutheran Church, Sullivan. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net

Mrs. Jones was born September 9, 1935 in Altamont, IL, the daughter of Edward Wilhelm and Edna Anna Koss Campe. Alice was a homemaker. She was a member of the Sullivan Faith Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the Ladies Friendship Guild. She also attended the First General Baptist Church in Decatur. Alice married John W. Calhoun on March 3, 1954 at Altamont, and he preceded her in death on August 7, 2001. She married Vernie Jones on May 15, 2004 at Decatur, and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2019.

Survivors include her sons Rick Calhoun of Decatur, Monte Calhoun of Decatur, James (Kona) Jones of Argenta and Jerry (LaWanda) Jones of Qingdao, China; daughters Donna Gerber of Lewisville, TX, Leann (Randy) Tolan of Springfield, IL, and Joanna (Tom) Price of Hendersonville, TN; twenty-one grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren; sisters Esther Magnus of St. Peter, IL, Lorene Schroeder of Altamont, Belva Shafer of St. Peter, IL, and Norma Campe of Altamont.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, daughter Teri Calhoun, great- granddaughter Karis Glass, brothers Harold, Delbert and Eldon Campe.

OV Timberwolves Win Third at Tournament

NP Sports EditorThe Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team defeated Meridian to place third in the 48th annual Vandalia Holiday Tournament last Monday.
OV took third by knocking off the Hawks 57-52.
Timberwolves’ senior Cameron Sharp earned all-tournament team honors and became the 31st player in tournament history to score more than 100 points in the tournament. Read More
