News Progress Posted on September 23, 2020 by webmasterSeptember 23, 2020

Dear Editor,
200 years ago it was God our Father who introduced our brother Jesus Christ to 14 year old Joseph Smith. Joseph did not know which church to join as there were many at that time. Check out what Joseph was instructed to do. As there are over 30 different churches in Moultrie Co now. Wake up America. God wants to help all of us get back to him. Read More

A few years ago, the Okaw Valley boy’s cross country team could barely field enough runner to complete a team.
But gradually, the Timberwolves’ teams fielded more runners and became more competitive.
And now, even during a pandemic, Okaw Valley is placing runners in top spots at the larger meets.
The Timberwolves took to the road and competed in the Moultrie-Douglas County Meet at Wimple Park Saturday. Read More

Three Ways To Vote In November

News Progress Posted on September 23, 2020 by webmasterSeptember 23, 2020

•September 23, 2020•

The Secretary of State’s office recently sent out a mailing regarding Vote by Mail, which is a little misleading and has caused many voters thinking that Vote By Mail is the only method of voting for the November 3, 2020 election.
People have three methods to vote in November:
• Vote By Mail
• Early Vote in the Clerk’s office starting on September 24
• Go to the Polls on Election Day
If Voters do not wish to Vote By Mail, all they need to do is to throw any correspondence referring to Vote By Mail away.
It our understanding that the Secretary of State’s office will be sending another reminder letter to Voter’s in October.
Most area counties have a County website with a Vote By Mail Application on it for registered voters to complete.
Reminder to individuals not registered to vote…it is not too late to register, registration ends October 6, but Grace Period Registration and Voting begins October 7 and runs through Election Day in the County Clerk’s office only, where a person can register and vote at the same time.

ALAH School District Makes It Through During COVID Pandemic

News Progress Posted on September 23, 2020 by webmasterSeptember 23, 2020

District is now officially a one-one device learning district

•September 23, 2020•
By Ariana Cherry
NP Writer

At the opening of the most recent ALAH School Board meeting, a number of new teachers were introduced. Some were brand new to the teaching field whereas others had previous experience. At least half of the public “audience” for last Wednesday night’s meeting was made up of the district’s new teaching staff. Teachers were from Lovington Grade School, Atwood-Hammond and Arthur Grade School. They all introduced themselves and their positions with the district. Excited to be a part of a wonderful district, they were eager for their introductions and a few stayed behind for the remainder of the meeting.
After the warm welcome to the new teaching staff, a budget hearing for FY21 was in session. Shannon Cheek explained that nothing much had changed since last month’s meeting and that the budget had been available for viewing for the appropriate time. Afterward, the hearing was closed, and the board would go on to vote for the budget later in the meeting, which was approved. Read More
