Memorial Day Services 2019

Memorial Day Services
Memorial Day services remembering those who died for the United States were held at Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan at 8:00 a.m. Monday. Sullivan American Legion Post 68 honor guard (left) gathered for the traditional 21 gun salute while Boy Scout Troop #39 marches in. The Honor Guard led the Memorial Day march from the Sullivan square to Greenhill Cemetery for a formal service. The Honor Guard also conducted Memorial services at the Vetrerans Memorial at Wyman Park and at Moultrie County Memorial Park.

Friday Return for Lovington Junefest Fish Fry

The Lovington Community Club will return to a Friday night fish fry this year at the request of the Lovington American Legion. The Community Club’s Junefest Fish Fry and the Lovington Community Fireworks will happen on Friday, June 14 because the Saturday date conflicts with the Legion’s monthly pork chop dinner.
The fish fry starts at 4:30 p.m. offering food, booths and entertainment in Tom Conn Park until 7 p.m.
The entertainment will continue at the field north of the Lovington Grade School until the sparks start flying after sundown.

Pancakes Served at Spin Event

Illinois Amish Heritage is offering breakfast at the June 1 event.
As the spinning wheel turns, the history of Illinois Amish heritage is revealed in a Sheep to Clothing event Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
New this year will be a pancake breakfast that will be served from 7:00-10:00 a.m. Pancakes, sausage, and traditional Amish liverwurst will be served.
After that, Warren Catering will serve a lunch menu of porkchops, chicken salad, chips, a side, and drinks as well as hot dogs for the kids.

Nuzzo Fourth at State, Knight’s Hall is Seventh

Two local athletes placed in the top 10 in their events at the IHSA Class 1A State Track and Field Meet in Charleston Saturday.
Redskin Jadon Nuzzo placed fourth in pole vault at 14 feet 6 inches, and Knight Layton Hall ran 3,200-meter in 9:47.03 for a seventh place finish.

Moultrie County Real Estate Tax Bills Mailed

Moultrie County real estate taxes were mailed May 24. The first installment is due July 2, 2019, and the second installment is due September 3, 2019.
Taxpayers should examine their tax bills including the back of the bill to make sure all of the information is correct. It is the responsibility of the property owner to report all address changes to the assessor’s office, 728-4951. Assessment and exemption questions should be directed to the Supervisor of Assessments office. Read More

Celia Dickens, 99, of Sullivan passed away at 8:07 p.m. Tuesday May 21, 2019 in Aspen Creek Assisted Living in Sullivan.
Celebration of Life services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday June 12 in Elim Springs Church of Jesus Christ, Sullivan with Vanessa Patient and Brigham Hagerman officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan. Arrangements are by Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan. Read More

The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
