Bright Lights, Big City for SHS Prom

The Sullivan junior class will host the 2019 prom Saturday, April 13. Doors will open at 6 p.m. All students must arrive by 6:50 or risk not being allowed admission.
Coronation will begin promptly at 7 p.m. The public is invited. After the court dance, dinner will be served at approximately 7:30 being catered by Griffin’s Catering. The dance will end at 11 p.m.
This year’s theme is Bright Lights Big City. The final day for ticket sales is April 8.
This year’s prom assembly will be provided by Dr. Mark Strauss of http://www.impactinjuryanalysis.com.
Mark Strauss has spent 30 years analyzing how accidents occurred and how people were injured.
He performs his analysis on industrial, agricultural and car accidents that have occurred throughout the country. Read More

Easter Egg Hunt Moves

The annual Sullivan Fire Protection District Easter Egg Hunt has moved to Courtyard Estates this year.
The Egg Hunt is at 3 p.m. Easter Sunday, April 21 at Courtyard Estates in Sullivan. This replaces The Courtyard Egg Hunt.

Dan and Susie Selock spoke to SMS students about Marion Medical Mission whose mission it is to provide clean water to villages in Malawi.

Sullivan Middle School hosted Dan and Susie Selock as special guest speakers in February.
The Selocks are involved with an organization called Marion Medical Mission whose mission is to provide clean water to villages in Malawi.
They shared stories and pictures to illustrate to the students how important this work is and how big an impact it has on these people who live in these villages to finally have access to something we so often take for granted here in the United States.
Along with their stories and pictures, the Selocks shared the story of how the Marion Medical Mission became involved in this work. They recounted a conversation which centered on the limited effects of providing medical assistance in this part of the world because of the lack of clean drinking water. This meant that they were constantly trying to treat illnesses that were brought on by sharing a water source with animals and the other limitations that come in the form of hygiene and sanitation. Benefit for Schrock Family

Tragedy struck the Larry and Ruby Schrock family when an explosion leveled their rural home and took the life of their son Jared on Feb. 1, 2019.
A family benefit is being hosted by area churches Saturday, April 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is located at The Arthur Christian School where lunch is served for donations from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. including sandwich choice, sides and dessert. Read More

April Quarter Auction

Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will hold their April quarter auction Wednesday, April 10 at Sullivan American Legion. Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is the charity of the month.
Money raised will be used for members to attend FCCLA State Conference and Summer Leadership Academy. ALAH FCCLA has 26 high school members. Vendors at the event will include Scentsy, JBloom Jewelry, Fun with Dips, Tupperware, Longaberger, Pampered Chef, Norwex, Avon, Clever Container, Revere Consignment, different craft vendors and more.
FCCLA plans to have baked goods for sale as well.

SBL Health Screenings

SBL Lincolnland Home Care and Lincolnland Hospice will conduct a free blood pressure clinic from 8:30 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Senior Center, Sullivan. For more information, call Lincolnland Home Care at 1-800-879-3212.
SBL Lincolnland Home Care, Lincolnland Hospice and Lincolnland Home Medical will sponsor bingo from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. following the blood pressure clinic.
Please Note: If the schools are closed due to adverse weather, the senior center will also be closed.

Yost Appears
Michael S. Yost appeared in Moultrie County Circuit Court April 2, represented by public defender Walter B. Lookofsky. In the state Appellate Court directed Krankel hearing Judge Hugh Finson set May 21 for the hearing. Ineffective assistance of counsel is the hearing topic with Yost citing his attorney Brad Rau had represented the murder victim Sheri Randall in a previous court proceeding.

Sullivan Board of Ed. Vacancy

New Mayor and Board for Sullivan

The city of Sullivan has a new mayor and board of commissioners following the Tuesday, April 2 elections.
Richard Glazebrook won the mayor’s race with 521 votes followed by William Burger with 223 and incumbent mayor Ann Short with 209 votes.
Abbey Sherwood is Accounts and Finance Commissioner with 507 votes over incumbent Mike Mossman with 443.
Chuck Woodworth won the Health and Safety Commissioner’s seat with 484 votes to Grant Wade’s 448.
Peggy Hargis led the three way race for Streets and Public Improvements with 524 votes. Edna M. Bailey received 210 votes and Nancy Barker 185.
Michael C. Fowler became Public Property Commissioner with 408 votes. Austin Hunter was second with 348 and incumbent Mike Kirk received 193 votes.
In the Sullivan Community School Board #300 race the three way race for township 12N range 5E Jeff White received 1,101 and Justin R. Florey 987 winning those two seats. Nancy J. Elder received 665 votes in that race. Joshua E. Green won his unopposed seat with 671 votes.
Okaw Valley CUSD #302 proposed a $6.5 million bond referendum for new construction with 351 Moultrie County residents voting no and 185 yes.
The Dora Township tax proposition was approved 48-25.
Of the 8,698 registered voters 2,333 ballots were cast for 26.85%.[/s2If]

The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
