ALAH Girls Kick off Conference with a Win

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond girls’ basketball team kicked off its Little Okaw Valley Conference games with a win against Decatur LSA Monday night.
The Knights took control early by scoring 20 points in the first quarter while holding LSA to three.
They added seven more points to take a 37-13 halftime lead.
The Knights added on in the second half for the eventual 60-22 win.
ALAH finished with seven three pointers, and three players finished with double-digits scoring. Read More

Meyer Earns Grant to Study Abroad

Paisley Meyer grew up in Sullivan and went to high school in Mattoon experiencing life on the prairie without much exposure to the rest of the world.
Now a student at the University of Illinois, the thought of studying abroad that seemed out of reach is suddenly within grasp.
That changed late last year with an email from the State Department which wrote to inform Meyer that she was among 12 UI students selected to receive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships, which provide grants of $2,500 to $5,000 to students with limited financial means to spend a semester studying or interning abroad. Read More

Nativity Hangs On

Nativity Hangs On
Holiday decorations and lights were removed from the Moultrie County courthouse lawn by Sullivan Park District personnel this week with the Nativity scene remaining as the last remnant of the decorating season.

OV Boys Rescheduled for Cumberland

The Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team lost to Neoga on the road Saturday.
Okaw Valley jumped out early with a 7-point lead in the first quarter, holding the Indians to three points of offense.
Neoga turned it around in the second quarter and outscored the Timberwolves 23-11 to take a 26-21 halftime lead.
Neoga held off OV in the second half for the 53-43 win. Read More

25 Years Ago This Week

Dee and Wayne Claytor won first place in the Bethany Lighting Contest. Second place went to Carroll and Sandy Ray, and third place winners were David and Kathy Doty. Mark and Judi Seeley won the award for best decorated outdoor tree, and Crowder Insurance won top honors as best decorated business.
The overall winner of Lovington’s Lighting Contest is Carl Elzy. Lloyd Long was the winner of the contemporary division, Karen and Tom Webb took second, and third place went to Murray and Lisa Kidwell. In the religious category Guy and Joyce Elder were the first place winners while Alma Fair won second, and third place went to Dick Nelson.
Over 30 Sullivan citizens recently chartered an Optimist Club to serve the youth of the area. Officers in the organization were the first to become charter members of the international club. They include Lisa Muirheid, Jamie Isaacs, Debbie Preston, Laura Sutton, Jon England, Rick Dunscomb, Gerry Wood, Wayne Turner and Mary Ann Hargis. Read More

Eagles Fly in February at Lake Shelbyville

Eagle Day at Lake Shelbyville is scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center.
The center will be open from 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with three different opportunities for event participants to view birds up close.
First, a 30 minute bald eagle program for kids is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.  At 11:00 a.m., there will be a 1 hour “talk and gawk” session where a live bald eagle and presenter will be available for visitors to photograph and ask questions to the Illinois Raptor Center staff. Read More

REAL IDs for Illinois Residents

Secretary of State Jesse White has advised that Illinois plans to initiate the issuance of REAL ID’s to Illinois residents who request them beginning in April of 2019.
There is not an urgency to obtain a REAL ID compliant Driver’s License because Illinois’ existing drivers’ licenses and ID’s are acceptable for domestic travel and entry into Military bases and secure Federal facilities until October 1, 2020. However, starting in April of 2019, if your Driver’s License is up for renewal, and you know you will need a REAL ID, you can start the process at the time of renewal.
Effective October 1, 2020
You NEED a REAL ID if:
• You do not have a valid U.S. passport or passport card; AND
• You use airplanes as a mode of domestic transportation; or
• You visit Military bases; or
• You visit secure Federal facilities.
You DO NOT NEED a REAL ID if:
• You have a valid U.S. passport or Passport Card; or
• You do not use airplanes as a mode of domestic transportation; or
• You do not visit Military bases; or
• You do not visit secure Federal facilities
Application Process for REAL ID Driver’s License or ID:
• Visit a Secretary of State Driver Services facility and take your photo and the required exams.
Provide proof of identity:
• U.S. Birth Certificate (If a name change occurred and differs from the Certificate, a certified copy of a Marriage License, or Court Name Change documents will be needed)
• U.S. Passport
• An employment authorization document
• A permanent resident card or a foreign passport with an approved I-94 form.
• All applicants must provide proof of full Social Security number (A SSN card, a W-2, or a pay stub with full SSN on it)
• All applicants must provide two current residency documents with the applicant’s name. (A utility bill, rental agreement, deed/title, bank statement, etc)
• All applicants must provide proof of signature. (a credit/debit card, canceled check or current Illinois DL/ID)
• All applicants will receive a temporary, secure paper DL/ID at the facility. NOTE: TSA and Federal Agents will not accept the paper document.
• After review and verification of documents have been conducted, your new permanent REAL ID card will be mailed to you.
Elected Officials, Department heads, County Board:
A copy of this memo will be attached to all employees check stub next Friday. As a courtesy to County Employees, if the employee was born or married in Moultrie County and needs documentation of such, the employee will receive a complimentary Certified Copy of the Birth/Marriage certificate.[/s2If]
