Dove Candlelighting

Dove invites you to join them for their 18th Annual Candlelighting Ceremony, “From Darkness to Light”.
It will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25 in the First United Methodist Church, Sullivan.
At this service, participants will mourn those who have suffered and died through domestic violence and celebrate with the survivors and those working to end the abuse. The ceremony which takes place in October as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 25 in the First United Methodist Church located at 216 W. Jefferson in Sullivan.
The service will include remarks from coordinator Mary Hughes, music, and the lighting of the candles.

25 Years Ago This Week

The Sullivan Band of Redskins, more than 75 members, recently marched in the Eastern Illinois University Marching Band Invitational and the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational. At EIU the band earned high marks in showmanship, expression, adaptability of the show, variety, creativity and marching analysis. They received awards for first runner-up brass and auxiliary. In the Mahomet contest, the band earned second place trophies in Class AA for band, winds, percussion, flags and drum major.
Matt and Janet Kracht of the Moultrie County Foreign Studies program took six Sullivan students on a 10-day tour of France and Italy. The six students were Marti Ray, Jesse Horton, Terry Doyle, Krystal Horsman, Wendy Gilmore and Stacy Collins. This year’s trip started in Paris and ended in Rome. Read More

Sullivan Ends Volleyball Season

Dine With a Doc®

First Baptist Trunk Or Treat

First Baptist Church in Sullivan will have a Trunk or Treat party in front of the church from 4–6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31
Pack your car or truck trunk with “goodies” and enjoy the party. The church will provide free hot chocolate outside the west door.
The public is cordially invited to attend, and don’t forget to bring the children.

Jane I. Compton, 92, of Sullivan passed away at 12:46 a.m. Sunday October 21, 2018 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Celebration of Life services will be noon Thursday in Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Gail Allen officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday. Burial will be in Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany. Read More

During Sullivan’s Homecoming weekend 45 classmates of SHS class of ‘68 joined in celebration for their 50th class reunion. The four day event brought members of the class from Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and the state of Washington to celebrate. The class graduated May 29, 1968.
The celebration kicked off with a Sadie Hawkins Event held at Standerfer Construction in Mattoon. Those attending enjoyed a wiener roast, hayride, chicken bingo, The Dunn Brothers Band, and a pie in the face contest. All this was topped off with great food, tons of laughter and fabulous memories. The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
