Beth Pruitt Democrat Circuit Clerk candidate
My husband of 30+ years passed away from cancer in 2011. Four years ago I married John Pruitt. John is the owner of Sullivan Auto Body. We have a blended family consisting of five adult children and three grandchildren.
I began employment in Moultrie County as a licensed court reporter in 1992. I was elected President of the Illinois Court Reporters Association and received the Distinguished Service Award.
Appointed Circuit Clerk May 1, 2018, by unanimous vote of the County Board, I began serving as your Circuit Clerk.
“What does the Circuit Clerk do?” The Circuit Clerk functions as the Clerk of the Court. The “Court” is whichever Judge happens to be hearing a particular case. We maintain the files of the Court and follow through on whatever orders the Court issues. I was humbled to be endorsed for the position of Circuit Clerk by four judges for whom I have worked during my career.
My experience in the court system is not limited to certain types of cases. Having participated in every type of court case, I am uniquely qualified to continue serving as Circuit Clerk. Read More

Those of you who called about not receiving your paper were very understanding, and the News Progress appreciates that! Read More

Sullivan Schools are fortunate to be able to provide a myriad of opportunities for our students to prepare themselves for their future.
This week I would like to highlight our welding program. We currently have 15 students enrolled in our Dual-Credit welding program at Sullivan High School through a partnership with Lake Land College.
In this course, our students have access to both a Lake Land instructor as well as our own Industrial Arts teacher. Throughout this course our students learn a number of basic welds that will help them fill jobs within our region. Read More

Banishing Domestic Violence from the Shadows Can Help

News Progress Posted on October 17, 2018 by webmasterOctober 17, 2018

•October 17, 2018•

By Mary Hughes
Mo.Co. Dove Coordinator

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Join us as we stand with victims, celebrate with survivors and honor those who work to end the abuse. The Dove, Inc. Candlelight Service will be held at the Sullivan United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 25.
Nearly one in three women and one in four men will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes. It’s simply too big a problem to stay quiet about. So, as we observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month, it’s vital that we spark an honest and candid dialog. The only way we can unite domestic violence perpetrators, survivors, researchers and service providers to create a world free from domestic violence is if we banish it from the shadows. Read More
