The Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA) is encouraging everyone with Medicare to check if their plan still meets their needs and budget during this year’s Open Enrollment Period, which began on October 15th and runs through December 7th, 2025. Individuals can get free help comparing health and drug plan options by contacting the state’s Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP).

The library will be closed on November 11th for Veterans’ Day, and November 27th - 28th for Thanksgiving.
Story times: Every Wednesday, November 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th, at 10:00 a.m. The bounce house will be available after the story and craft.
November 12th is a special story time. The first twelve families to register will receive a ‘Curious George’ themed gift. The registration link can be found on the ETML Facebook page, or you can call the library at (217) 728-7221.
*Every Monday at 9:00 a.m., ETML hosts a Memory Café: This is a social gathering for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Get helpful information and support from others who also have loved ones who struggle with memory loss.

The fall chicken and noodle dinner is set for November 17th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Clarence Bixler American Legion Post 409 in Findlay. This will once again be a fundraiser for the kids at Kemmerer Village. Their goal is to raise $5,000 to help make Christmas a little merrier. If they can sell 400 meals, that would get them very close, coupled with the current monetary donations received. The meal this year consists of homemade chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls, and Texas sheet cake. Tickets are on sale (advance purchase only) beginning October 28th through November 14th at $12.00 each. All funds raised go to Kemmerer Village to help with Christmas expenses.

Sullivan Blue Dolphins headed to Terre Haute October 25th and 26th for the start of their short-course season. SBD took the 1st place trophy with 1356.5 points, edging out 2nd place by 291.5 points. SBD had 7 swimmers bring home high point winners.
In the 6&u division was Tinley Eads won 1st place with 66 points. Then in the 8&u division, it was Emme Kirkley with 1st place, and she had 86 points.
Also in the 8&u SBD had Stella Perrott with 2nd place and 25 points. In the 11-12 division, there was Michaela Blickensderfer with 71 points to earn 1st place and Avery Hess with 67 points for 2nd place. In the 15&O women’s division, it was Emily Crosier who took 1st place with 88 points. Then, in the men’s 15&O division, it was Nathan Rafferty who took home 1st place with 78 points. The Dolphins definitely put on a show this weekend at the 2025 THT Halloween Splash.

On Saturday, November 1st, the First Christian Church of Sullivan’s parking lot was packed (as were its hallways and other spaces) with Christmas shoppers and Christmas cheer. From authors, bakers, craft-makers, and coordinators, the scent and spirit of the holiday season filled the air. Delectable delights of all types, arts and crafts from creatively pragmatic to beautiful, left all in attendance hovering over tables and shelves, checking their lists, and anticipating Christmas the day after Halloween.

On Sunday, November 16th, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Arthur United Methodist Church, the Moultrie-Douglas 4-H will be holding a free Sewing Skills workshop. This workshop is a guided sewing session, making a pillow case with local seamstress, Pam Simpson. It is open to youth ages 8-18. Youth do not have to be a 4-H member to attend, and you will leave with a 4-H project that you can enter in Sewing Level 1 / Sewn Non-Clothing.

Sullivan CUSD #300 is collecting new and gently used towels and blankets to be given to the local homeless individuals and animal shelters between November 10th and 14th. These items can be dropped off at the Sullivan High School and Middle School offices or given to Mrs. Badman, Mrs. Stinebring, or Mrs. Bates. This event is sponsored by the NEHS and ELA Honor Societies.
