Last Friday night at Thomas Conn Park in Lovington, the Lovington Park Board hosted a ‘Trunk or Treat’ event for the community. Awards were presented for best decorated golf cart, best decorated trunk, and each age group. The overall winner was Noah Lemarr, dressed as a pirate.

Starting November 3rd, Sullivan Schools will be opening the indoor walking track at Sullivan High School’s new gymnasium to the public (when available) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. Community members may enter through the Unit Office doors, and the track is located on the second floor of the high school gym. Mrs. Rita Florey has volunteered to supervise during these times. The track will be closed on the following scheduled M-W-F dates: November 12th, 19th, 26th, and 28th.

Crossing rivers was a huge problem for the early pioneers and Native Americans who came before them. Rivers acted as barriers between developing communities. It took some effort for neighborhoods on opposite sides of the rivers to mix. (Our modern Lake Shelbyville acts like a barrier today because only three bridges span the lake in thirty or forty miles.)
The Indians worked out a system for crossing rivers in central Illinois. They kept canoes hidden on either side of larger streams at trail crossings. Isaac Hill marked the spot on the “Okaw” where he found canoes hidden along the bank while exploring Montgomery and Bond Counties in 1809.

Celebration of life services were held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the Arthur United Methodist Church with Pastor Jill Bunker officiating. Burial followed at the Arthur Cemetery. Shrader Funeral Home, Arthur, assisted the family with arrangements.
