NOTICE is hereby given that the office of MOULTRIE COUNTY CLERK & RECORDER’S will be open from 8:30 A.M. TO 4:30 P.M., beginning OCTOBER 27, 2025 through NOVEMBER 3, 2025, for the purpose of accepting candidate petitions or certificates for the GENERAL PRIMARY ELECTION to be held on MARCH 17, 2026 for the following offices.

On Saturday, October 18th, neither wind nor rain could deter Sullivan’s First United Methodist Church from holding their ‘Trunk or Treat’ event. With the weather uncooperative, the event was moved indoors where the festivities went on, and enjoyed by all.

On Saturday, November 8th, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Moultrie-Douglas Extension Office, 304 E Progress Street, Arthur, a free photography workshop will be sponsored by 4-H and conducted by Allen Welch. Mr. Welch is a 4-H photography judge, studio owner, and Tuscola Vault Art Gallery board member. This event is open to youth ages eight to eighteen years. This engaging, hands-on, after-school workshop series is open to children in grades 3 through 8. Lessons taught will be about force, motion, electrical currents, positive/negative charges, and everyone will be invited to use their ‘problem-solving hats’ to build projects. Participation is open to the public for this free workshop. All workshops will occur at the Arcola Public Library, 407 E Main Street, Arcola. There are only twelve registration slots open. Illinois youth deer hunters set a new record for the season, harvesting a preliminary total of 4,714 deer October 11th through 13th. Top harvest counties include Randolph, 259; Pike, 164; Adams, 155; Jefferson, 155; and Marion, 135. Comparatively, youth hunters took 4,097 deer during the season in 2024.
Youth hunters with an unfilled, valid youth deer permit may still hunt with the permit during the upcoming firearm deer seasons, November 21st through 23rd and December 4th through 7th. This is the first year that unfilled youth permits are valid for both segments of the firearm season. Moultrie County numbers are as follows by year: 2025-30, 2024-36, 2023-28.

La Niña is a climate phenomenon characterized by cooler ocean temperatures in the Pacific, which can significantly influence weather patterns across the United States. The Climate Prediction Center has issued a La Niña watch, indicating that conditions could persist through the winter months, affecting areas of the Midwest and of course, Illinois.
