Frosty Friday on The Square

Sullivan Dance Studio’s Competition Dance Team is hosting a “Frosty’s Friday Night Fun” on Friday, January 17 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Children ages 5-10 are invited to attend.
The event will take place at the Sullivan Dance Studio located on the square in Sullivan. Funds will be raised for dancers’ competition and costume fees. Activities at the events include: dance party, themed crafts, games, photo booth, and snacks.

Lost Photo

At approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan 14 Darrell Betzler had gathered photos like the one above preparing to leave his home on McClellen St. in Sullivan.
One photo showing the stormy sea while Betzler was stationed on a tanker refueling the Seventh Fleet flew off his car and is missing.
If anyone finds the missing photo in the 300 block of McClellen Betzler is willing to pay a reward for its return. Please call 217/254-1251 with information.

Titus Farm Land Transferred

Green Lincoln Partners of Wilson, Arkansas took possession of 654.45 acres of the Winifred Titus Sentel trust which was recorded January 6, 2020 at the Moultrie County Courthouse.
This was the largest acreage purchased during the Busey Farm Brokerage sale of the seven tracts of land in the 928.1 acre Titus Farm located north of the city of Sullivan.
Green Lincoln Partners, Inc. December 30, 2020 trustee deed acquisition was mortgaged for $5,200,000 by Prudential Insurance Company of America.
Metro Communications owner Zak Horn purchased 273.65 acres north of the city limits for $3,236,840.
The land transaction on tract 3, 203.66 acres has yet to be recorded. The purchase price of $2,352,073.
The $10,971,883 sale total of the Titus Sentel Trust farms goes to the city of Sullivan less expenses, as directed in the Winifred Titus-Sentel will.

Little Redskins Activity Group

The Little Redskins Activity Program is a playgroup full of learning activities created and organized by students at Sullivan High School.
Children ages 3-5 are welcome to register for this opportunity to come have fun at the high school for free. Services will be provided every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. in the high school commons starting January 14, and ending March 26.
Please park on the south of the commons in unpainted spots.

“Desserts with Dove”

“Desserts with Dove” will be hosted on Tuesday, January 14, noon to 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 216 W. Jefferson, Sullivan, Illinois.
Come learn more about the programs and services offered and how you can become involved.
• Mary Hughes, Moultrie County Coordinator for the Domestic Violence Program, is retiring - come and wish her well.
• Becky Freese has been training with Mary and is beginning as the newest Moultrie County Coordinator, January 15, 2020.
• Dove Financial Assistance Program began in Moultrie County in December with Coordinator Rev. Shane Hartman.

NWTF Banquet at Sullivan VFW

The National Wild Turkey Federation’s Kaskaskia Longbeards is holding a Hunting Heritage Banquet on Friday, Jan. 17.
This Save the Habitat, save the Hunt event is from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Sullivan V.F.W. on Rte. 32.

Legion Delivers

The Bethany American Legion Post 307 and Auxiliary recently collected more than $1000 from the community which went to residents at the Danville Veterans Administration Hospital.
Bethany Post members Sam Scott, Punch Martin and Mike Brewer delivered the assortment of tennis shoes, sweat suits, and other requested items to the Danville veterans the week before Christmas.
Since it was Punch Martin’s first visit VA staff members gave the group a tour of the facility explaining how the gifts for the resident veterans are collected and distributed.
The members of Post 307 would like to thank all those who contributed to this annual event, which helps make the season brighter for the residents at Danville VA.

News Year’s at Sullivan Legion

The Sullivan American legion is hosting a New Year’s Eve party beginning with dinner from 6:30 -8:30 p.m.
Complete Pork chop or Steak dinners are offered at the Strain Street Post .
Wreckless Whiskey plays from 9:00 to 12 midnight.

SHS Post Prom Seeks Donations

Sullivan High School Post Prom is Sat. April 25, 2020 and parents are in the process of organizing activities.
Open to all eligible prom-goers whether they attend prom or not the event at Building 1225 is from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
Post prom committee is asking for monitory donations or gift certificates or products from local businesses that can be used as prizes during the event.
Donations can be mailed to Post Prom treasurer Lis White at 23 Bradford Hills, Sullivan, 61951.

Bethany Legion Post Delivers

Bethany American Legion Post 307 and Auxiliary recently completed their annual Christmas drive for residents at the Danville Veterans Administration Hospital.

Spring concert

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
