Breakfast Fundraiser For Family In Need

The First Baptist Church of Sullivan will host a pancake breakfast from 7 - 9 a.m. Saturday, February 22 to provide support for a widow who has experienced the unexpected death of her husband. The funds raised will help defray funeral expenses.
A variety of Amish bakery goods will also be available. Both the breakfast and the bakery goods are by donation only.
The breakfast will take place in Fellowship Hall whose entrance is at the west side of the church at the corners of Harrison and Worth streets. Fellowship Hall is on the lower level and is handicap accessible.
Pastor Mark Bjornbak cordially invites the public to come and share God’s love.

Sunday Brunch at the Sullivan Legion Post

Sunday brunch is offered from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. February 23 at Sullivan American Legion Post 68.
This special Sunday brunch offers a varied menu including breakfast favorites pancakes, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, cheesy hash browns plus meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, drinks and desserts.
Reservations are encouraged by calling 217/728-4612. First Community Bank is a participating sponsor of the Sunday Brunch.

First Celebrates Shrove Tuesday

Feb. 25 is the final day of Mardi Gras, known as Shrove Tuesday, and for the sixth consecutive year the Sullivan First Methodist Church is throwing a free party.
Historically Shrove Tuesday is a day to feast on pancakes before the Season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.
You are invited to enjoy the music and pancakes from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25th at the church located across from the Sullivan fire station.
Remember there is no charge! Everything is on us.

Fried Pies on Sale for Beacon

The Moultrie County Beacon’s annual Fried Pie sales are underway. Orders are due February 28.
Each year thousands of homemade fried pies are sold to support programming for adults with Intellectual Disabilities.
Orders are due to the Moultrie County Beacon in Sullivan by Friday, February 28. Orders may be submitted on the website www.mcbeacon.org, by calling 217.728-7396, faxing 217.728-2217 or mailing to the Beacon at P.O.Box 406, Sullivan 61951.
Due to the high volume, orders will not be processed until payment is received. Payments may be made online with Pay Pal, in person at the Beacon or mailed.
Orders will be ready at the Otto Center in Arthur the morning of Thursday, March 19.
Fried pie orders should be picked up at the Otto Center before 11:00 a.m. and at the Moultrie County Beacon from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Delivery orders will be made to Arthur businesses from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. March 19.
Sullivan business deliveries are before noon March 19.
Homemade fried pie flavor choices include: lemon, apple, cherry, cherry cream cheese, peach, raisin, raspberry, raspberry cream cheese, sugar free raspberry.
The Moultrie County Beacon has been lighting the way for people with disabilities since 1968.

Win Meat at Sparrows Tax Day Raffle

The Sparrows Unlimited Tax Day raffle drawing is April 15 at Jerry’s East End in Lovington.
Two blue ticket winners will win a quarter beef (processed) or win a half hog by possessing a tan ticket.
Tickets are available at The Toy Bar in Sullivan, Rusty’s at LaPlace, Jerry’s East End and the Lovington American Legion. Need not be present to win.

American Legion Hosts Wine Expo

The Sullivan American Legion Post 68 Auxiliary is hosting a Wine Expo and Vendor fair from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020.
Held at the Sullivan American Legion, Fox Creek Vineyards and Lasata Wines will be featured wineries.
For a small fee you are invited to shop with the vendors, enjoy a glass of wine and buy a bottle to take home.
Raffle tickets will be available for a chance to win awesome prizes from the wineries and vendors.
The kitchen is open and the Sons of the American Legion are ready to cook.
Enjoy an afternoon of shopping and sipping.

The Sullivan High School Student Council will be hosting their spring blood drive on Wednesday, March 4th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
Walk-ins are welcome, but you may also schedule your appointment with Mrs. Kirby at kirbym@sullivan.k12.il.us or call the school at 217-728-8311 to leave a message.
The American Red Cross gives a senior student council member a scholarship depending on the number of units received, so please consider giving.

First Baptist Holds Installation

First Baptist Church in Sullivan is holding installation services Sunday, March 15.
The special event begins with regular church service at 10:00 a.m. followed by potluck at 11:45 a.m. in the fellowship hall.
Installation service is at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. A reception will follow the installation in the fellowship hall.

Coleman Benefit Set

Music by Identity Crisis and the Feudin’ Hillbillies will provide live entertainment for the Jessica Coleman Breast Cancer benefit beginning 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 22 at the Sullivan V.F.W.
Besides an afternoon filled with music at the Route 32, Sullivan V.F.W. Club, attendees can participate in a silent auction, auction, and 50/50 drawing while enjoying a cash bar and food available from the V.F.W. kitchen.

On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
