Registration Deadline Near for Voters

Moultrie County Clerk Georgia England would like to remind residents of Moultrie County that the deadline to register to vote or transfer/change registration for the upcoming March 20 General Primary Election is Tuesday, February 20. Residents may register to vote at the County Clerk’s office, Moultrie County Courthouse, 2nd floor in Sullivan from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registration is also available at all Moultrie County libraries and with the Precinct Committee persons.

Requirements for registration are:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

• Must be at least 18 years of age by election day; 17 years of age to vote in a general primary if individual will be 18 as of the following general election;

• Must have been a resident of your precinct at least 30 days prior to election day.

• Two forms of identification, one showing registrant’s current address.

Have you moved or changed your name?

A few circumstances in which a person would need to re-register or change registration are: (1) A person has married or changed their name. (2) A person has moved to Moultrie County from another jurisdiction [county]. (3) A person has moved within the county; even if it would be next door, a transfer of registration is required.

Call and check with the county clerk’s office at 728-4389, or go online at www.elections.il.gov and go to the link called “Registration and Polling Place Information”.

Bell Benefit at V.F.W. in April

A benefit for Diane Bell is set for 5-8 p.m. Saturday, April 7 at the Sullivan V.F.W.

Dinner is a free will donation and a gun raffle, bucket raffles, live and silent auctions, music and more are waiting at the V.F.W. on Route 32 south of Sullivan.

Lovington Has Minor Benefit

The Kathy Minor Benefit is April 14 in Lovington beginning with a 6-10 a.m. biscuit and gravy breakfast at the Church of God Life Center.

The benefit continues at 5 p.m. at Jerry’s East End with the band Whiskey River preforming, a 50/50 raffle, auction, meat board raffle, hot dogs and chips. All proceeds are to assist with medical expenses,

Minor has required hospitalization several times due to medical issues and has no insurance.

Prisons Ministries Annual Auction

The Gospel Echoes Team Prisons Ministry 16th annual benefit auction and haystack supper is Friday, March 16 at the Otto Center south of Arthur.

The Haystack supper is from 4-8 p.m. with the auction beginning at 6 p.m.

Proceeds will go toward sponsoring prison Bible studies.

Election Notice: Elderly/Persons With Disabilities

Voter accessibility for the March 20, 2018 General Primary Election is provided through the County Clerk’s office.

Citizens who are not registered to vote and cannot leave their home or nursing home facility because of a permanent physical disability may arrange for voter registration and voting by contacting the Moultrie County Clerk’s office.

The last day to register to vote before the March 20 General Primary Election is Tuesday, February 20 with the exception of grace period registrations and transfers between February 21 through election day.

Anyone may register at the county clerk’s office, Moultrie County Courthouse, 10 S. Main, Sullivan from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, if a person is unable to come to the courthouse, they may call the county clerk’s office, and arrangements for registration will be made.

All polling locations in Moultrie County are accessible to the elderly and persons with disabilities. Voting aids and assistance are available, if needed, in marking the ballot. If for some reason a person is unable to go to the polls on election day, they may call the clerk’s office and arrange for a Vote by Mail ballot. The last day a Vote by Mail ballot may be mailed out is Thursday, March 15. The last day to early vote in person at the county clerk’s office is March 19 with the exception of Grace Period Registration and Voting.

Frontiersmen Host Historic Arms Show

The Prairieland Frontiersman is holding the 29th annual Historic Arts and Craft Show at the Sullivan American Legion March 9 and 10.

Hours for the two day event are 1-6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Traders may set up Friday morning.

This event is for traders and artisans of the Colonial, Fur Trade, Civil War and Indian War eras offering pre 1898 guns, knives, accoutrements or replicas.

Security is provided, and more than 60 tables are available for those who reserve early. Call Steve Wood at 217-728-7369 days for more information.

American Legion Auxiliary Hosts Findlay Blood Drive

How to Register to Become an Organ Donor

February 14 is National Donor Day, an annual reminder that organ donation is a life saver.

More than 118,000 people in the United States are waiting for organs, and every 10 minutes, someone is added to the national transplant waiting list, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing.

Average people can make a big difference, simply by adding their names to The National Donate Life Registry. Indeed, one organ donor can save up to eight lives. You can register to become a donor at the DMV when applying for a driver’s license or by visiting registerme.org.

Sullivan Health Screenings

SBL Lincolnland Home Care and Lincolnland Hospice will conduct a free blood pressure clinic from 8:30 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Senior Center, Sullivan. For more information, call Lincolnland Home Care at 1-800-879-3212.

SBL Lincolnland Home Care, Lincolnland Hospice and Lincolnland Home Medical will sponsor bingo from 9 – 10 a.m. following the blood pressure clinic.

Please note: If the schools are closed due to adverse weather, the senior center will also be closed.

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
