Titus Manor Holiday Bazaar

Titus Manor in Sullivan will have their annual Holiday Bazaar Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 9, 10, and 11.

This year the bazaar will be located in the apartment on the north side of the Titus Manor property next to the garage.  “It has been converted into a sort of Holiday House” said Lee Hunter, activity director. “And will be decorated for Christmas plus all kinds of nice crafty items will be offered for sale.”

In conjunction with the bazaar, there will be baked goods available inside Titus Manor (main house) parlor.

Santa arrives November 11 from 10 a.m. to noon in the parlor of the main house. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served, and free pictures with Santa will be available.

Employees of Titus Manor have been gathering non-perishable food items to help with the upcoming holiday season for the community.  If anyone would like to bring a can of food or any other non-perishable food item when they come visit, Santa will be taking all of those items to the Moultrie County Food Pantry the following week.

Poshard Speaks at Legion Hall

Glenn Poshard, former U.S. Representative and Democrat governor candidate, is among featured speakers at the Moultrie County Democratic Spaghetti Supper Friday, Nov. 3.

Poshard will be joined by State Treasurer Mike Frerichs and past Illinois State Representative Julie Curry at the Sullivan American Legion Post #68.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and speakers begin at 6:45 p.m.

Dinner is free for veterans and children.

Windsor Thanksgiving

The fourth annual community Thanksgiving Feast will be held 4-6 p.m. Nov. 19 at Windsor High School.

The Windsor area churches sponsoring the event include Smyser Christian Church, Windsor Christian Church, Windsor United Methodist Church, Ash Grove Christian Church, and Gays Christian Church.

They are preparing a Thanksgiving dinner for anyone in the Windsor, Sullivan, Mattoon and surrounding communities who want to enjoy a free traditional Thanksgiving meal in the company of others.

Haunted Tram Rides at Mason Point

Mason Point in Sullivan is offering free Haunted Tram Rides for all ages 8-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday Oct. 27 and 28.

Those wishing to ride should dress warmly and gather in front of the administration building on Hwy. 121 before departure time.

OVHS Band Places Third

The OVHS band received third place in class 1A competition at the University  of Illinois Saturday, Oct. 21.

They finish up the marching season Saturday, Oct. 28 in Pinckneyville.

Alice’s Country Cruise Begins

Alice’s Country Cruise begins when the hay wagon rolls out from Rusty’s in LaPlace at noon October 28.

In honor of Alice Lawyer, the Hay Wagon Country Cruise  will raise funds for a family in need who will be chosen by Alice’s daughter. This is the kick off year for the event which is expected to continue.

The signup fee includes a long sleeve shirt plus apple and cherry shots. The signup sheet is located at Rusty’s with the first 40 people guaranteed shirts.

Chili and hot dogs will be served, a 50/50 drawing and silent auction items will help generate funds.

The ride includes three additional stops and ends at Rusty’s. Participants may ride the wagon or use their own vehicle for the cruise.

Lovington Plans Oct. 28 Contest

A special Halloween Costume Contest is Saturday, October 28 at the First Church of God in Lovington. Hot dogs and chips will be served at 6 p.m. followed by costume judging until 8 p.m. Lovington Trick or Treat is Tuesday, October 31.

Businesses will open their doors to costumed characters from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, with residential trick or treating from 5-8 p.m. October 31.

Dove Candle Ceremony

Dove invites you to join them for the 17th Annual Candlelighting Ceremony. At this service, participants will mourn those who have suffered and died through domestic violence and celebrate with the survivors and those working to end the abuse. This ceremony takes place in October as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 26 in First United Methodist Church, 210 W. Jefferson in Sullivan. The service will include remarks from coordinator Mary Hughes, music, and lighting of the candles.

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
