Newspaper Deadlines for Holiday

Due to the Fourth of July falling on Tuesday the Moultrie County News Progress will observe early deadlines for the July 5th edition.

Deadlines for all advertising and news items is noon on Friday, June 30, 2017.

The newspaper business office will close Tuesday, July 4 to observe the holiday.

Thank you and enjoy the fireworks.

Senior Center Health Screens

SBL Lincolnland Home Care and Lincolnland Hospice will conduct a free blood pressure clinic from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday, July 20 at the Senior Center in Sullivan. For more information, call Lincolnland Home Care at 1-800-879-3212.

SBL Lincolnland Home Care, Lincolnland Hospice and Lincolnland Home Medical will sponsor bingo from 9-10 a.m. following the blood pressure clinic.

Mo-Do 4-H Holds Sewing Workshops

The University of Illinois Extension Unit 19 Moultrie-Douglas 4-H is holding an intergenerational sewing workshop 9-11:30 a.m. July 8 at First Christian Church in Sullivan.

The workshop is open to tailors of all ages.

Those who have a sewing machine and the sewing basics may  bring them, but there will be extras on hand.

Faith Lutheran Has Cookout

Faith Lutheran Church in Sullivan is having a cookout and bake sale at Sullivan, IGA 10 a.m-2 p.m. Saturday, June 24.

Ribeyes, brats and pork chop sandwiches will be served hot off the grill.

Proceeds go to the Creation Museum / Noah’s Ark Trip by Faith Lutheran Church.

Mobile Mammography Available Locally

Sarah Bush Lincoln’s Mobile Mammography Services will be at the SBL Sullivan Clinic July 20. To make an appointment for a mammogram on the mobile van call 1-800-639-5929.

The Mobile Mammography van helps provide mammograms to women who may not otherwise have access to, or be able to afford, these life-saving preventive screens. Women who qualify will receive their mammogram free.

The mobile mammography van is available to all women regardless of their financial status. Women with insurance that covers their yearly mammogram are also welcome.

F.L.I.P. 4 Findlay 5K Run/Walk

F.L.I.P. in Findlay is sponsoring a 5K Walk/Run August 12 at Eagle Creek State Park.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with 8 a.m. scheduled for race time. Fees include t-shirt.

Prizes will include three awards per age group and gender with the overall male and female winners eliminated from their respective age groups.

Coles-Moultrie 9-1-1 Holds Open House

An open house for Coles-Moultrie 9-1-1 is from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, June 28 at the Mattoon headquarters.

The public is invited to tour the facility and learn about the recently completed Coles-Moultrie enhanced 9-1-1 system.

This is a chance to meet and speak with the dispatchers who will provide demonstrations on how emergency calls are handled.

Coles-Moultrie 9-1-1 dispatch is located at 10500 State Hwy 16 in Mattoon.

Our Town Celebration Friday

Sullivan is participating in the WCIA-TV Our Town segment with the city putting on a street festival Friday, June 16.

The Festival on the Square is from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  with The Little Theatre on the Square-Beauty & the Beast offering a preview at 4:00 p.m. with a variety of entertainment for adults and children throughout the event.

Resident Circuit Judge Rau Announces Bradford Rau Announces Candidacy

Former Sullivan Attorney and current Moultrie County Resident Circuit Judge Bradford Rau (R-Sullivan) announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for a full six-year term as the Resident Circuit Judge for Moultrie County.

“Our judicial system is too important not to be made up of experienced and accomplished attorneys. I wanted to provide a clear choice for voters this March. I look forward to earning the support of communities in Moultrie County for my candidacy to serve as their Resident Circuit Judge. I am offering voters real, concrete accomplishments in my over 33 years of practicing law in both the public and private sectors,” Rau said.

Spring concert

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
