When inclement weather strikes this winter the Sullivan School District will delay school opening two hours.
In an effort to accommodate parents with morning obligations the district will open the Sullivan Elementary School gym at 8 a.m. The Sullivan High School gym will also be opened with supervision for middle and high school students who need to arrive earlier than the 10 a.m. and 10:14 delayed start times.
The adjusted schedule will be used during extreme cold or when weather has caused poor driving conditions early in the morning but then clear off within a couple of hours.
On the delayed start days, school starts two hours later than usual (SES 10 a.m. and SMS/SHS 10:14 a.m.) Buses will run two hours later. Parents will be notified through the Skyward “all call” system and local television stations.
Breakfast will not be served. Morning Early Childhood and Project HELP classes will not be in session. Dismissal times will remain the same.

A Christmas Eve service at the First Baptist Church located at 215 E. Harrison in Sullivan is Thursday, December 24.
A musical prelude begins at 6 p.m. followed by service from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The Christmas Eve program includes responsive readings, Christmas hymns, the pastor’s message, and lighting of the Christmas candles.

Sullivan First United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary.

There will be no December 2015 or January 2016 general meetings at the Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society due to the holidays and unsure weather. December closing will be at 3 p.m. on the 21st and the society will reopen at noon February 1.

The Moultrie County News Progress offices will be closed on Thursday, December 24 and Friday, December 25 to observe the Christmas holidays.

Faith Lutheran Church in Sullivan will hold a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 7 p.m. and Christmas day meditations 8 a.m.-noon. All are invited to come at anytime and stay for as long as they like to reflect on the Christmas story.
A meditation pamphlet will be provided for each person, and there will be Christmas background music.
A 5 p.m. worship service will be held Saturday, December 26 with Christmas hymns.
Sunday school for all ages will be at 9 a.m. Sunday Dec. 27 including a DVD, “Christmas Is” for young children and “Joseph Man of Steel” for Jr. High students to adults. Worship service with Christmas hymns is at 10 a.m.

A special Christmas Bingo is set for Thursday, December 17 at the Sullivan American Legion.
Starting at 6:20 p.m. there will be several cash giveaways of $100. There will also be one $500 winner and one $1000 winner for the night.

The Redskins scholastic bowl beat Clinton and Meridian December 7 with Ryan Baker leading the team in the first game with three toss-ups.
In the second game Baker led with four toss-ups. Luke Delong had three with Grace Mauck and Ross Metzger each earning one.
The JV beat Clinton but lost to Meridian. In the first match Katie Webb, Lindsay Jones and Winchester Phelps each had two toss-ups. In the second match Phelps led with three.
