Project HELP

The Okaw Valley School District and the Project HELP Preschool program will be offering free developmental screenings to provide parents an opportunity to discover how their child is developing in the areas of speech, language, concepts and motor skills. Vision and hearing screenings will also be provided free of charge.

For an appointment for the March 13 and 14 screenings call Tracy Ryherd at 217-665-3541. The screenings will take place at First Christian Church, 312 W. South Water in Bethany.

Basket Bingo

To raise funds for the 2025 Prom, the SHS Prom Committee will be hosting Bingo, including prizes, raffle, silent auction and a bake sale along with food and drinks available.   

The Basket Bingo will be held on February 21st in the high school commons. Doors for the event open at 5:30, game will begin at 6:30. Tickets for Bingo are $15 if bought by February 17th and $20 at the door.

Dine with a Doc

The Mid-Illinois Senior Services Center is hosting a free lunch with Dr. Andy Kim DC from Stanfield Chiropractic, at the senior center, 113 E Jefferson, in Sullivan on February 4th from 11am to one. During this time attendees can listen and ask the doctor questions, receive door prizes and fellowship with peers.

Agri Fab Inc. to host Community Blood Drive

Agri Fab Inc. will host a Community Blood Drive with ImpactLife, the provider of blood components for local hospitals. The blood drive will be from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, February 7 at 809 S Hamilton St, inside Gold Classroom.  

To donate, contact ImpactLife Urbana at (800) 747 5401 or visit www.bloodcenter.org and use code 71025 to locate the drive. Appointments are requested.  

Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission form available through www.bloodcenter.org) and weigh more than 110 pounds. A photo I.D. is required to donate. For questions about eligibility, please call ImpactLife at (800) 747 5401. Donors who last gave blood on or before 12/13/24 are eligible to give at this drive.

Project HELP Preschool round up

The Windsor School District and the Project HELP Preschool program will be offering free developmental screenings to provide parents an opportunity to discover how their child is developing in the areas of speech, language, concepts and motor skills. Vision and hearing screenings will also be provided, free of charge. The free screenings will begin on Friday, March 28th at the Windsor Christian Church, 1101 Broadway.  

To find out what preschool options are available in your community, schedule an appointment to have your child screened by contacting Missy Hendrickson at (217)459-2447. Signed parent/guardian permission required. Screening are required for possible enrollment in the Project HELP preschool classroom.

Thursday, January 30th: Roast beef, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, green bean casserole, coleslaw and bread or roll.  

Friday, January 31st: Veggie burger, vegetables, black-eyed pea salad, fruit or salad and a bun.  

Skim milk and desserts with no sugar added are available in many locations, ask the sit supervisor for information. The nutrition program suggests a donation of $4 for each congregate and home-delivered meal. No older person shall be denied a meal because of their inability to contribute towards the cost of the meal. Illinois link cards are accepted. Free laundry day

Another free laundry will be provided by the collaboration of The Moultrie Shelby County ROSC, ACE Hardware and DOVE inc. The groups once again has pulled together to offer a free laundry day on January 30th, at the Sullivan Wash and Fold, previously known as the Rainbow Wash House, at 809 W Jackson St. in Sullivan. The free event will run from 9-12pm.  

For further questions or donations to a future laundry day, contact Skylar Miller at Skylark@hourhouserecovery.org. Naloxone and Naloxone trainings will be readily available to community members during this event.

Sullivan Boy Scout Troop # 39 was at the ready with delicious food in Kirby’s parking lot for famished deal-seekers on Friday, June 5th, during Sullivan’s annual Townwide Rummage Sale. On the menu were brats, steak sandwiches, pork chops, chips, sides, and cool beverages.
