January Quarter Auction

The January Quarter Auction will be held at the Sullivan American Legion on January 8. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., auction starts at 6:30 and supper is being served from 5:00-7:00. The January auction will benefit Moultrie County Paws. 

The meal will include pulled pork BBQ, macaroni and cheese, green beans and loaded nut free brownies. Meal cost $10 per person or $35 for a family pack, dine in or carry out. For tickets call Tina Bolsen at the American Legion 217-620-8185 or Lisa Griffin, Griffin’s Catering, 217-620-4003 (call or text).

There will also be a bake sale and vendors.

Early deadline

Due to New Years falling on a Wednesday this year the deadline for the holiday paper has been moved up. Deadline for the January 1 issue is the previous Thursday, 12/26, at noon.

This deadline is for all items including legals, display advertising, classifieds, news items and obituaries.

LLC celebrates associate degree nursing graduates

Graduating nurses received their pins at the 2024 Lake Land College Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to Associate Degree Nurse (ADN) Bridge program pinning ceremony. 

The LPN to ADN Bridge program provides a pathway for current LPNs to advance in their careers by becoming a registered nurse with one additional year of coursework. 

Among those graduating were Alicia Yoder from Arthur and Blake Robinson and Kendra Elzy both of Sullivan.

Christmas candle special

Hammond United Methodist Church will hold their annual Christmas candle lighting with special music featuring “Collage of Faith” on Sunday, December 22 at 6pm. All are welcome to join this celebration. Light snacks will follow in the fellowship hall. The church is located at 3rd and D Streets in Hammond and is handicap accessible.

Christmas toy and treat drive

The Moultrie County Animal Shelter has began their 2024 Christmas drive for both treats and toys for the animals in their care. The second year of this drive asks for donations for the pets at the shelter, while home to both cats and dogs has posted wishlists for their fluffy friends. All donations will directly benefit the pound pets at the shelter.  

The wishlist provided for the critters includes bones, Pupperoni treats, dog canned food, cat canned food, kong toys, tug ropes, slow feeder bowls, kitten canned food, cat litter and dental sticks. Donations can be made at the Kaskaskia Valley Animal Hospital front desk during office hours between 8am and 6pm Monday- Friday and 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.

Family reading night

Windsor Elementary School is calling on Santa’s little helpers for a family reading night on Thursday, December 12th from 5-6pm. During the family reading night, families can expect a photo with Santa, cookies and hot cocoa, storytime with Mrs. Claus, games and a scavenger hunt.

Nativities on display

Enjoy Nativity displays at the First United Methodist Church in Sullivan, across from firehouse. On December 14 and 15 there will be several privately owned nativities on displays in the sanctuary and other areas within the church. The public is welcome to come and view these displays from noon to 3:00 p.m. each day.

Donations will be accepted and proceeds will benefit the local ministries in Sullivan.
