Central Illinois Public Transit (CIPT) will be hosting an Advisory Council Meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8. The meeting will be held in the small meeting room at Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library in Sullivan. It is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend and to voice their transportation needs, concerns with the program, and suggestions on how CIPT can better serve its community. Discolored Water Still Okay to Consume

Sullivan water plant maintenance ongoing
According to Sullivan health and safety commissioner Bill Hagen routine maintenance at the water treatment plant has led some city patrons to experience discolored water and odor.
The yellow tint is iron that due to maintenance of a juncture of pipes and valves, is unable to be filtered out as normal. The Sullivan water tower, which was recently repainted, was also put back online Monday. However, Hagen said the levels of iron in the water supply resulting from the maintenance and water tower are still safe to consume.
The commissioner says he hopes to complete the maintenance work in the next few weeks.

Sullivan School Summer Food Service
The Sullivan School District will be providing free breakfast and lunch to anyone 18 years old or younger beginning June 2 through July 25.
Breakfast will be served from 7:30-9 a.m. while lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., both in the Sullivan Elementary cafeteria.
All food must be eaten in the cafeteria and anyone 18 or younger is encouraged to participate.
The school district is also encoring participation in the Sullivan Park Recreation Program, a free program offered through the city of Sullivan. For more information on the park program, contact Sue Weaver at 728-4541.
AL Schools to Hold Special Meeting June 12
On Thursday June 12 at 1:30 p.m., a meeting conducted by the Community Unit School District #305 will take place at District Office, 301 E. Columbia, Arthur, IL in the Central Office. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the district’s plans for providing special education services to students with disabilities who attend private schools and home schools within the district for the 2014-2015 school year. If you are the parent of a home-schooled student who has been or may be identified with a disability and you reside within the boundaries of the C.U.S.D. #305, you are urged to attend. Cookout Benefit for Wagner
A cookout benefit will be held on May 31 at the Sullivan IGA parking lot to raise money for Presley Wagner, the infant daughter of Shelby and Andy Wagner who has the rare syndrome Trisomy 14 Mosaic.
Only around 200 known cases of the syndrome have been known world-wide since 1970 and tends to cause cleft hand, conductive hearing loss, and other conditions, some of which Wagner is displaying. The syndrome is lifelong.
Wagner is currently seeing doctors in Decatur, Springfield, Champaign and making weekly trips to St. Louis, resulting in tremendous financial costs.
The cookout will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offers brats, pork chop sandwiches, rib eye sandwiches, soda and water. Donations should be made payable to Faith Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 109, Sullivan, IL 61951. Donors should also add “Wagner” to the memo line of check donations.

Little Miss contestants deadline is Saturday, June 14.

Upcoming Blood Drives
There will be three opportunities in Moultrie County to donate blood in the next two weeks.
The Sullivan American Legion Post 68 and American Red Cross will host a blood drive 11:45 a.m-6 p.m. May 13 at the American Legion in Sullivan.
For an appointment, call Jeri Davis at 273-9456. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments ensure proper staff is available.
A blood drive sponsored by the Okaw Valley High School student council will also be held 10 a.m-2 p.m. Friday, May 9 in the Okaw Valley High School gym in Bethany.
Any healthy individual, age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds may donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing a signature. Donors do not need a social security number with Community Blood Services. All blood types are needed, especially Types 0- and 0+.

Lastly, a blood drive will be held at the IGA in Sullivan 3-6 p.m. Thursday, May 15.
Donors with appointments will have priority. To schedule an appointment, call the blood center at 367-2202 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org.
Participants are asked to eat before donating, to drink extra water, and to bring his or her ID. Eligble donors will have last donated blood on or before March 20 of this year. The group sponsor code for this blood drive is 70870.
In addition to the blood drive, the Moultrie County Health Department will do blood pressure checks and have information on car seats, poison control, and other services they offer.
