Upcoming Blood Drives

ImpactLife will be holding several upcoming blood drives in the month of December. There will be a drive at Mid-State Tank on Tuesday, December 12 from 7:00 am to Noon on a donor bus at 1357 Jonathan Creek Road, Sullivan. There will also be a drive at Agri-Fab Inc. on Friday, December 15 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Gold Classroom at 809 S. Hamilton Street. The Cadwell community will have a blood drive on Tuesday, December 19 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm in a donor bus parked by M&E Woodcrafts at 1533 CR 1900N. To donate contact (800) 747-5401 or visit www.bloodcenter.org and use code 71293 for Mid-State Tank drive, 71025 for Agri-Fab drive or 70636 for Cadwell drive.

Findlay Lighted Christmas Parade

There will be a lighted Christmas parade in Findlay on Sunday, December 3 at 5 pm. Anyone who would like to be in the parade should line up at Okaw Valley Middle School between 4:15 and 4:30 pm that day. The parade will start at the middle school, go east on Division Street, turn right on South Main Street and then left on South 2nd Street, ending at the fire station. Parade entry winners will be announced at the fire station at the end of the parade. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be inside the fire station for children to visit with and children can bring their Santa letters to drop off.

Christmas Bake Sale

The United Women in Faith will hold a Christmas Bake Sale and Cookie Extravaganza on Friday, December 8 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Sullivan First United Methodist Church, across from the firehouse. There will be homemade cookies, breads, pastries, candies, pies, jellies and more. All proceeds will support UMW local missions.

Letters to Santa

The News Progress will be printing Letters to Santa in our December 20 issue. If your child would like to write a letter to Santa it can be e-mailed to santa@newsprogress.com. It must be received by Noon on Wednesday, December 13.

Sullivan Christmas Parade

There will be a variety of activities in downtown Sullivan on Saturday, December 1 starting at 4 pm prior to the lighted Christmas parade. There will be free s’mores, fun food trucks, horse pulled wagon rides and kids activities. Visit Santa in his house near the pavilion before and after the parade. The lighted Christmas parade lineup will start at 5 pm at Sullivan High School. Parade will start at 6 pm and will follow the traditional parade route.

Clayton Receives Scholarship

Lakeview College of Nursing in Danville and Charleston, announced numerous scholarship awards for the Fall 2023 semester. Dakota Clayton, of Sullivan, received the LCN Transfer Need-Based Scholarship. Clayton attends classes on Lakeview’s Charleston campus.

Lakeview College of Nursing Scholarships are made possible by generous donations to the College’s scholarship endowment fund. Scholarships are awarded based on criteria established by the donor and each applicant’s financial need and/or academic merit.

Lakeview College of Nursing offers a bachelor of science in nursing degree. It is a single-purpose, private institution specializing in nursing education in the Danville, IL, area since 1894. Lakeview began offering the program in Charleston, IL, in the fall of 2001.

Windsor Wonderland

Windsor Wonderland presented by W.H.A.T. will be held on Saturday, December 2 from 4 to 6 pm on Maine Street in Windsor. This free event will include hot cocoa and cookies, live reindeer, activities and games and the lighting of the Christmas tree. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the library for visits.

Rich Recognized

Cheryl Rich of Sullivan was honored during a reception for her outstanding achievements and contributions as a former Lake Land employee during the 2023 Foundation and Alumni Awards at Lake Land College recently. Rich was a 2023 inductee into the Lake Land College Retiree Wall of Fame.

Babb Nominated

Austin Babb, originally from Sullivan, was nominated for the Non-Traditional Student of the Year Award at Lake Land College. Austin Babb is a non-traditional student in Lake Land’s Paramedical Services Program. She was nominated by Jasmine Ballard, emergency services program coordinator. Austin is originally from Sullivan and now lives in Lerna with her husband and children. She works full time as an EMT while also keeping up with the demands of being both a student and a mother.

In the nomination form, Ballard said, “Austin is compassionate with her patients and knowledgeable in her industry. When she finishes class, she will be a great provider and mentor to fellow providers as well as a wonderful teacher to students.”

Santa Picture Bingo

Santa Picture Bingo will be held on Saturday, December 2 from 8 to 11 am at the Sullivan American Legion Post 68. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 10:30 am and the menu is all you can eat pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, donuts, fruit and white and chocolate milk. Cost is $8 for ages 12 and up and $5 for children under 12. Bingo will start at 8:15 am with the last game played at 11 am. Bingo games are just 25 cents each with all prizes geared to children but fun for all ages to play. There will also be a bake sale, homemade fudge and a fun bag raffle. All proceeds benefit Down Syndrome Awareness. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be there for photos and to collect children’s wish lists.
