Music Bingo Night

There will be a Music Bingo Night on Saturday, February 24 at 5 pm at the Sullivan VFW, 1132 IL 32 in Sullivan. Tickets are $50 and include bingo all night and taco bar. There will be big prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Reserve a table for an additional $50. All proceeds go to Lovington fireworks. Chili Cookoff

The Bethany Celebration Committee will be having a Chili Cookoff on Friday, February 16 at Bethany American Legion. Sign in is from 4 to 5 pm and the event is open to the public from 5 to 7 pm. Entry fee is $10 per chili and tasting fee is $5 which includes one bowl and three cups. Categories are spicy, traditional and unique. Make the best chili to win cash prizes. ECIAA on Aging Hosting Conversation

The East Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging is hosting a conversation for Moultrie and Douglas counties on Thursday, February 8 from 10 am to Noon at the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library in the Community Room. There is also a remote option. The Zoom meeting id is 850 6190 4278 and passcode 397820. In these uncertain times community based programs serve as a lifeline for older adults and their caregivers, grandparents raising children, nursing home residents, victims of abuse, and individuals with disabilities. Outhouse Festival Breakfast

The Outhouse Festival committee will be hosting a biscuits and gravy breakfast on Saturday, February 10 from 8 to 11 am at 815 Front Street in Gays. Cost is a free will donation with proceeds going towards the August 10 festival. Carry out is available. Menu is biscuits and gravy, sausage links, bacon, hashbrowns, cinnamon rolls, coffee, orange juice or milk. They will also have breakfasts on March 23 and May 4.

Biscuit and Gravy Benefit

Sparrow’s Unlimited will hold a biscuit and gravy breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, February 17 from 7 to 11 am at the Lovington Church of God Community Building. Cost is by donation. To go orders are available. All proceeds will benefit local families in need. They will host a breakfast on the third Saturday of the month in February, March and April.

Lybarger Named to Dean’s List

Brett Lybarger, a freshman at Greenville University, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2023 semester. To qualify for the Greenville University Dean’s List, a student must successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours for the semester. Freshmen (0-29.5 credits) must have a semester GPA of 3.5 or above. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors must have a semester GPA of 3.7 or above.

Bateman Named to Dean’s List

Kennedy Bateman of Mattoon made the fall 2023 dean’s list at Missouri State University. For undergraduate students, criteria include enrollment in at least 12 credit hours during the fall semester and at least a 3.50 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
