Lovington Coal Mine Artifacts Search

Two local area historians are seeking to borrow or accept donations of artifacts, pictures, stories, paperwork, tools, and other memorabilia of the Lovington Coal Mine for free future community presentations. Help us preserve these memories for this and future generations. To discuss donating or loaning, email Dale Jones in Lovington at jones101@one-eleven.net or Ralph Kirk in Sullivan at ralphk0202@gmail.com. You will be contacted. Donors will receive public credit when donations are used.

Third Annual Military Show

The Findlay American Legion 409 will be hosting their Third Annual Military Show on November 10 from 10 am to 6 pm, November 11 from 10 am to 6 pm and November 12 from Noon to 5 pm. On display will be uniforms, equipment, maps and other military items from the Civil War to present day. Almost all items are authentic from the time periods they represent. Hamfest

Moultrie Amateur Radio will hold Hamfest on Saturday, November 4 from 7 to 11 am at the Sullivan American Legion. A fox hunt will be held immediately at 11 am. Admission is $5, table rental is $10. Items for sale will include outdoor tools, electronics and ham radio gear. For more information contact Ralph Zancha at 217-254-7574.

Quarter Auction

Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will hold their November Quarter Auction on Wednesday, November 8 , 2 0 2 3 . The event will be held at the Sullivan American Legion. The charity of the month is the Tribe 12 U Softball Team. This is the second year for the existence of this organization. Players on the team range from 10 -12 years old and are from Shelbyville, Mt. Zion and Sullivan. Tribe 12 U is a semi travel softball team based out of Sullivan. The Tribe coaches for this team focus on teaching fundamentals of softball and life with a goal for the girls on the team to learn confidence, competition, self worth, teamwork, discipline and so much more. Your support at this event will allow us the opportunity to buy some team tools to help our girls learn and grow. At the November Quarter Madness, vendors could include: direct sales such as Avon, Plunder Jewelry, Scentsy, JBloom Jewelry, Tastefully Simple, pawTree, Pampered Chef, Thirty-One PLUS different craft vendors, hair bows, laser engraved designs and more. Come shop the vendors and stay for the Quarter Auction. Bring your quarters for charity items and extra bidding. All-In-Paddle will be $20. Doors open at 6:00 and the Quarter Auction begins at 6:30. All ages are welcome to attend. The Tribe 12 U Softball Team will also hold a Silent Auction and Bake Sale during the event. Food will be available for purchase in the parking lot with Highway Heartburn Food Truck. Drink purchases can be made through the Legion as well. We are hosting a virtual program with Netflix’s star from Bake Squad.  She will be sharing her love of pies from her own kitchen just in time for Thanksgiving.  More information will be posted on our Facebook page including information on how to register or you can call the library at 728-7221.

Every Monday at 9:00 AM we will be hosting a Memory Café. This is a social gathering for individuals with dementia and their caregivers.  Get helpful information and support from others who also have loved ones with dementia and Alzheimer.

Beef Stew Dinner

Hammond United Methodist Church will hold a homemade beef stew dinner on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 11am to 1:30 pm in the church fellowship hall. This fundraiser “all-you-can-eat” dinner includes stew, roll or cornbread, jello salad, dessert and drink. The cost is $10 per person with family rates. Take out will be available. The church is located at 3rd & D Streets and is handicap accessible.

Veterans Luncheon

Mid-Illinois Senior Services, Inc. will host a Veterans Luncheon on Thursday, November 9th. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. Veterans eat FREE, everyone else pays $5.00/meal. Food prepared by Griffin’s BBQ Crew Catering Service of Sullivan. Menu is chicken & noodles w/rolls, cookie bars, coffee, tea, lemonade. Those interested in attending must call the Senior Center to register before Friday, November 3 at 217-728-8521 Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

SDS Chili Dinner

Sullivan Dance Studio Competition Team will hold a chili dinner at the Sullivan American Legion on Friday, October 27th. Meals will be served from 5 to 7pm and will include a bowl of chili with your favorite toppings, peanut butter sandwich, dessert and tea or lemonade. Adult prices are $10 and kids 10 & under are $8. OV Veterans Day Event

Okaw Valley Community Unit School District invites all Veterans and their family members to a Veterans Day program at Okaw Valley High School in Bethany on Friday, November 10th. A breakfast will be provided to all who attend beginning at 8:15 am in the cafeteria and a short assembly will follow at 9:15am. The assembly will feature the Okaw Valley School District band and chorus students, and keynote speaker. The students and staff at Okaw Valley thank all Veterans for their acts of courage and devotion to the ideals that have served to guide our nation. We would be honored if you could join us to pay tribute to all the brave men and women who have admirably served our country. If you will be able to attend, please call 665-3232 for a reservation.

Trick or Treat Activities

Bethany: BASO’s annual Safe Trick or Treat will be on Saturday, October 28 from 4 to 6 pm on Main Street in Bethany. Several local businesses will have activity booths, games and of course candy. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Village of Bethany Police Station garage. There will also be a chalk art contest hosted by Bricks and Bones during the event at 121 E. Main Street. Winner will get a $50 gift card. The theme is Circus. 

Findlay: On Friday, October 27 the Clarence Bixler Post 409 will have costume judging and a supper. Supper will be from 5 to 7 pm and the menu will include chicken and noodles, barbecue, peanut butter and cheese salad sandwiches, deviled eggs, cole slaw, desserts and drinks. Costume judging will begin at 7 pm. There are a variety of categories. 

On Tuesday, October 31 from 5 to 7 pm there will be a trunk or treat at Findlay First Christian Church, 101 S. Wall Street in Findlay. 

Lovington: Lovington will have their annual costume contest and trunk or treat on Friday, October 27. Business trick or treat will be from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Trunk or Treat on State Street from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Sign ups for costume contest are at 5:30 pm at the Lovington Firehouse. Costume judging will be at 6:00 pm. Residential trick or treating will be from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. 

Sullivan: Traditional Trick or Treat Hours will be Monday, October 30 and Tuesday, October 31 from 6-9 pm.

Safe Trick or Treat on the Square is Tuesday, October 31 from 4-6 pm with AMBUCS Halloween parade at 6:30 pm around the square. 

Windsor: The Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a soup supper on Saturday, October 28 from 5 to 7 pm. There will also be a costume parade and costume judging at 7 pm. 

W.H.A.T. and Windsor Storm Library will have a trunk or treat event on Saturday, October 28 from 5 to 6:30 pm on Maine Street. 

Hope House is sponsoring activities at the Community Building starting at 5 pm with a movie later in the evening about 7:30 pm.
