Outhouse Festival Breakfast

The Outhouse Festival committee will be hosting a biscuits and gravy breakfast on Saturday, February 10 from 8 to 11 am at 815 Front Street in Gays. Cost is a free will donation with proceeds going towards the August 10 festival. Carry out is available. Menu is biscuits and gravy, sausage links, bacon, hashbrowns, cinnamon rolls, coffee, orange juice or milk. They will also have breakfasts on March 23 and May 4.

Biscuit and Gravy Benefit

Sparrow’s Unlimited will hold a biscuit and gravy breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, February 17 from 7 to 11 am at the Lovington Church of God Community Building. Cost is by donation. To go orders are available. All proceeds will benefit local families in need. They will host a breakfast on the third Saturday of the month in February, March and April.

Lybarger Named to Dean’s List

Brett Lybarger, a freshman at Greenville University, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2023 semester. To qualify for the Greenville University Dean’s List, a student must successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours for the semester. Freshmen (0-29.5 credits) must have a semester GPA of 3.5 or above. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors must have a semester GPA of 3.7 or above.

Bateman Named to Dean’s List

Kennedy Bateman of Mattoon made the fall 2023 dean’s list at Missouri State University. For undergraduate students, criteria include enrollment in at least 12 credit hours during the fall semester and at least a 3.50 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Students Recognized

Lakeview College of Nursing (LCN) recognizes students who have recently received academic degrees. Area students who have graduated from the program include the following:

Dakota Clayton of Sullivan. Clayton graduated Cum Laude from the Charleston Campus of LCN. Clayton received the College’s prestigious Charline Grygiel award. This award is given to the graduate from each campus who stands out as a leader and most exemplifies the values of Lakeview College of Nursing: adaptability, caring, excellence, integrity, and service. Clayton is a 2015 graduate of Sullivan High School in Sullivan. He graduated from University of Illinois in Urbana in 2020. He is the son of George and Tammy Clayton of Sullivan.

Zachary Lensink of Mattoon. Lensink graduated from the Charleston Campus of LCN. Lensink is a 2016 graduate of Mattoon High School in Mattoon. He graduated from Lake Land College in Mattoon in 2017 and from University of Illinois in Urbana in 2020. He is the son of Scott and Michele Lensink of Chicago. He is married to Kyler Lensink of Midland, Texas.

Lakeview College of Nursing offers a bachelor of science in nursing degree. It is a single-purpose, private institution that has specialized in nursing education in the Danville, IL, area since 1894. Lakeview began offering the program in Charleston, IL, in the fall of 2001.

Bingo

Bingo every Thursday at the Sullivan American Legion hosted by the Sullivan Singers Boosters. Doors open at 5 pm. Regular Bingo starts at 6:30 pm. Food and drinks available for purchase.

Open House

The Sullivan Area Ministerial Association will be holding an open house event at Sweet Vail on Wednesday, February 7 from 9:30 to 11:00 am. During the open house, attendees will have the chance to meet the pastors, hear about the work being done by local churches and ask questions to members of the Ministerial Association. Light snacks will be provided.

Habitat for Humanity Taking Apps.

Moultrie County Habitat for Humanity is now taking applications for two Habitat homes, one is a new build and the other is in need of some rehab before being occupied. Note the home in need of rehab will need paint and flooring but those interested will still need to put in hours on the home. Applications for homes can be picked up at the ReStore in Sullivan or at the Moultrie County Habitat for Humanity located a 8 S. Washington St, Suite 102 in Sullivan. Applications must be returned by Wednesday, January 31. If you need additional information contact their office at 217-728-7386.

Quilting Speaker

Karen Edwards, winner of the 2023 Amish Country Spring Quilt Show in Arthur, will be at the Arthur Public Library on February 3rd at 1:00 p.m. to discuss her quilting techniques and how she made her prize winning 3-D quilt. Call the Arthur Public Library at 217-543-2037 to reserve your seat.

The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
