Audubon Society Meeting

The Decatur Audubon Society invites Audubon members and other interested persons to its second summer meeting at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, at the Dam and Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center on the east side of the lake on IL Hwy 16. A brief meeting with announcements will precede a tour of the center led by a member of the Lake Shelbyville Volunteer Association. Attendees may then optionally enjoy a meal at a restaurant of their choice in Shelbyville.

Tractor Drive

Findlay Fire Department will be having a tractor drive on Saturday, July 22. Registration is 7 to 8 am and the drive starts at 8 am. Lineup is on the south side of the fire station. The drive is donation only, with proceeds going to the Findlay Fire and Ambulance Association scholarships. Tractors must be capable of running 12 mph. Side by sides are welcome. Parking and unloading will be at the elevator. The ride will end at Tailwinds for anyone that would like to eat together, you will be responsible for your own meal. Community Blood Drive

Monarch Cabinetry will host a community blood drive with ImpactLife, the provider of blood components for local hospitals, on Tuesday, July 18 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm at 1157 State Hwy 32, inside Showroom Building. Gospel Concert

Allenville Christian Church will host a gospel concert with the group Heavenbound quartet from Decatur on Saturday, July 8 at 6:00 pm at the church. A love offering will be collected and there will be finger food fellowship following the concert.

Monthly Quarter Madness

Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will hold their July Quarter Auction on Wednesday, July 12. The event will be held at the Sullivan American Legion. Sullivan Boy Scout Troop 39, the charity of the month, is an organization that provides youth with leadership skills using core values and character development. They are also faith based and allow each scout to follow their own religious path. Funds raised would be used to purchase camping supplies such as food items because scouts love to eat. Or may also be applied to rank and merit badge patches. At the July Quarter Madness, vendors could include: direct sales such as Avon, Scentsy, JBloom Jewelry, PaperPie, Tastefully Simple, Plunder Jewelry, Pampered Chef, PLUS different craft vendors, hair bows and other accessories, laser engraved designs, and more. Come shop the vendors and stay for the Quarter Auction. Bring your quarters for charity items and extra bidding. All-In-Paddle will be $20. Doors open at 6:00 and the Quarter Auction begins at 6:30. All ages are welcome to attend. Food will be available for purchase through Highway Heartburn Food Truck in the Legion Parking Lot. Drink purchases can be made through the Legion. Vacation Bible School

Smyser Christian Church will be hosting “Backstage with the Bible” VBS July 17-21 from 6-8 p.m. each night. VBS is for children entering preschool-5th grade. The closing program will take place on Friday July 21st from 6-8 p.m.. All families of VBS students are invited to attend the closing program. Shamdin Graduates

Katherine Shamdin of Mattoon was among the students conferred their degrees at the University of Iowa. Shamdin was a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences whose program of study was Enterprise Leadership. The degree awarded was a Bachelor of Arts.

Nuzzo Graduates

Jadon Nuzzo of Sullivan graduated from Monmouth College on May 14 with a degree in exercise science. Nuzzo is the son of Jerry Nuzzo of Sullivan.

Dental Hygiene Graduates

Lake Land College dental hygiene graduates received their pins at the annual pinning ceremony. Graduates from our area who were pinned during the ceremony were Kelly McGill and Nashlynn Williams of Findlay and Carlin Shumard of Sullivan. Williams received the Linda Lee Fletcher Scholarship earlier this year. McGill was also recognized for receiving a Heartland Dental Scholarship earlier in the year. Shumard received the Best Dental Hygienist Award, which was voted on by students in the program.

EMS Program Graduates

Lake Land College recognized EMS program graduates at an annual pinning ceremony in May. Preston Ozier from Bethany was pinned by his dad Assistant Fire Chief/Paramedic Phil Ozier. Zachary Homerding from Lovington was pinned by his daughter Raelynn and wife Dakota. Homerding was the recipient of the Top Student Award for highest score in the program and The Shirley Sherwood Award for Excellence in EMS education.

Sullivan High School student Claire Kursell recently participated in the Central Illinois High School Art Exhibition at Millikin University. She received an honorable mention for her piece, “Bride of Frankenstein”.
