The University of Illinois Extension in cooperating partnership with Decatur Catholic Charities and Sullivan United Methodist Church will hold a mobile food pantry on Thursday, September 14 from 4 to 5 pm at Sullivan United Methodist Church, 216 W. Jefferson, Sullivan (across from the firehouse). A mobile food pantry delivers a 2 week supply of food per family in rural communities. Any individual or family that does not have a steady food supply qualifies to receive food. No financial information is required to qualify. This distribution is open to all, not only residents of Sullivan. Please note: There is a mobile food pantry held in Windsor, Sullivan and Lovington. Choose the location closest to your residence. A blood drive in honor of Jodi Phelps will be held on Saturday, September 9 from 8 am to 2 pm in the main room at the Sullivan American Legion, 8 East Strain in Sullivan. Jodi has received more than 500 units of blood as she fights leukemia, diabetes, congestive heart failure and kidney failure. She wants others to know just how much of a difference donated blood products can make in someone’s life. The Sullivan Street Machines Association will host Cruise Night on the Square in Sullivan on Saturday, September 2 starting at 3 pm. Registration is only $15. All makes, models and years are welcome. Dash plaques for the first 100 registered, goodie bags and cruise route. Over $1,500 in door prizes. Free popcorn will be provided by Boy Scout Troop 39. Memory Cafe, a social gathering for individuals with dementia and their caregivers is held Monday mornings at 9 am at the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library, 2 W. Water Street in Sullivan. The program includes free coffee and activities.

Lake Land College has announced their 2022-2023 athletic awards. Taylor Orris of Sullivan was named to the 2023 NJCAA All-Academic First Team in women’s basketball. Alexa Miller of Cadwell was named to the 2023 NJCAA All-Academic Second Team in women’s basketball.

Dakota Clayton, from Sullivan, was among the students from Lakeview College of Nursing who made the summer Dean’s List.
Students who are enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at Lakeview College of Nursing and who achieve a GPA of 3.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale are named to the Dean’s List for the semester.
Lakeview College of Nursing offers a bachelor of science in nursing degree. It is a single-purpose, private institution that has specialized in nursing education in the Danville, IL, Area since 1894. Lakeview began offering its program in Charleston, IL, in the fall of 2001.

Mid-Illinois Senior Services, Inc. will hold their Senior Expo on Friday, September 22 at the Sullivan American Legion. Doors open at 9:30 am and food will be served at 10:00 am. There will be a free brunch catered by Griffin’s BBQ Crew and Catering Service, LLC. The brunch is sponsored by Agri-Fab, Inc. and Hydro-Gear. This year’s event will be held in person and will be the first in person Expo since 2019.
