The class of 2023 soon will be donning their caps and gowns and receiving their diplomas. After commencement ceremonies, graduation parties will soon follow. For party guests, that means finding the right gifts for grads.

Audubon Meeting

The Decatur Audubon Society invites members and other interested persons to its general monthly meeting at Rock Springs Nature Center, 3939 Nearing Lane, Decatur on Sunday, April 16 at 2:00 p.m. The meeting will begin with a bird study about the World Migratory Bird Day and how water sustains bird life. Melody Arnold will explain the importance of celebrating World Migratory Bird Day and Kristen Ragusa will highlight waterfowl species that migrate through our Central Illinois area. Following brief announcements, Dawn Dannenbring, Climate Organizer of Illinois People’s Action, will present the history and features of the Climate with Equity Jobs Act (CEJA) passed in 2022, that includes funded authority to create and staff 13 Job Hubs in Illinois, including one in Decatur. Light refreshments will be available following the presentation.

White Named to Team

Emily White of Sullivan has been named to the Winter Academic All-Conference Team for Women’s Basketball at Millikin University. White is sophomore majoring in Nursing. To be recognized, the student-athlete must be enrolled as a full-time student; completed two semesters of study at Millikin; must participate in a varsity sport during the 2022-23 winter season; and must carry at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.

MCHGS Presentation

“The Amazing Earl Walker” will be presented at the Moultrie County Historical and Genalogical Society’s History Center located at 1303 S. Hamilton St., Sullivan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20. The program will be presented by his granddaughters, Carla Davis of Herrick, Lynn Jeffris of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and other family members and will be a power point presentation. Earl Walker is considered amazing in Moultrie County’s history by local historians because he was an innovator, successful businessman, the builder of “hard roads” all over central Illinois, and a pioneer aviator who supported the well-known Moody Brothers of Dalton City when they set their 344 hour flight endurance record in 1939. The Earl Walker Company, now owned by the Wheeler family, is one of the oldest businesses in the county. The public is invited to attend and will be invited to share their memories.

Memorial Golf Outing

The Bethany Senior Citizen Potluck will be held on Wednesday, April 19 at the Bethany firehouse. Bingo is at 10 am and meal at 11 am. The ham will be furnished. Everyone welcome.

Clayton Receives Scholarship

Lakeview College of Nursing in Danville and Charleston, announced numerous scholarship awards for the Spring 2023 semester.
Dakota Clayton, of Sullivan, received the LCN Transfer Need-Based Scholarship. Clayton attends classes on Lakeview’s Charleston campus.
Lakeview College of Nursing Scholarships are made possible by generous donations to the College’s scholarship endowment fund. Scholarships are awarded based on criteria established by the donor and each applicant’s financial need and/or academic merit.
Lakeview College of Nursing offers a bachelor of science in nursing degree. It is a single-purpose, private institution specializing in nursing education in the Danville, IL, area since 1894. Lakeview began offering the program in Charleston, IL, in the fall of 2001.

Quarter Madness

Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will hold their April Quarter Auction on Wednesday, April 12. The event will be held at the Sullivan American Legion. Habitat for Humanity is the charity of the month. Vendors at the event could include: direct sales such as Avon, Scentsy, JBloom Jewelry, Thirty-One, Tastefully Simple, Paper Pei (formerly Usborne Books), Pampered Chef, plus different craft vendors, hair bows, boutique clothing, shoes, accessories and more. Come shop the vendors and stay for the quarter auction. Bring your quarters for charity item and extra bidding. All-In paddle will be $20. Doors open at 6 pm and quarter auction begins at 6:30 pm. All ages are welcome to attend. Food will be available for purchase through Highway Heartburn food truck in the Legion parking lot. Drink purchases can be made through the Legion. Upcoming Blood Drives

The Cadwell community will host a community blood drive with ImpactLife, the provider of blood components for local hospitals, on Tuesday, April 18 from 3 to 7 pm at 1533 CR 1900 N, Cadwell, the donor bus will be parked by M&E Woodcrafts. To donate contact ImpactLife Urbana at (800) 747-5401 or visit www.bloodcenter.org and use code 70636 to locate the drive. Appointments are required. Agri-Fab Inc. will also host a blood drive with Impact Life on Friday, April 21 from 9 am to 2 pm at 809 S. Hamilton Street, inside the meeting room.
