Allenville Christian Church will host a gospel concert with the group Heavenbound quartet from Decatur on Saturday, July 8 at 6:00 pm at the church. A love offering will be collected and there will be finger food fellowship following the concert.

Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will hold their July Quarter Auction on Wednesday, July 12. The event will be held at the Sullivan American Legion. Sullivan Boy Scout Troop 39, the charity of the month, is an organization that provides youth with leadership skills using core values and character development. They are also faith based and allow each scout to follow their own religious path. Funds raised would be used to purchase camping supplies such as food items because scouts love to eat. Or may also be applied to rank and merit badge patches. At the July Quarter Madness, vendors could include: direct sales such as Avon, Scentsy, JBloom Jewelry, PaperPie, Tastefully Simple, Plunder Jewelry, Pampered Chef, PLUS different craft vendors, hair bows and other accessories, laser engraved designs, and more. Come shop the vendors and stay for the Quarter Auction. Bring your quarters for charity items and extra bidding. All-In-Paddle will be $20. Doors open at 6:00 and the Quarter Auction begins at 6:30. All ages are welcome to attend. Food will be available for purchase through Highway Heartburn Food Truck in the Legion Parking Lot. Drink purchases can be made through the Legion. Smyser Christian Church will be hosting “Backstage with the Bible” VBS July 17-21 from 6-8 p.m. each night. VBS is for children entering preschool-5th grade. The closing program will take place on Friday July 21st from 6-8 p.m.. All families of VBS students are invited to attend the closing program. Katherine Shamdin of Mattoon was among the students conferred their degrees at the University of Iowa. Shamdin was a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences whose program of study was Enterprise Leadership. The degree awarded was a Bachelor of Arts.

Jadon Nuzzo of Sullivan graduated from Monmouth College on May 14 with a degree in exercise science. Nuzzo is the son of Jerry Nuzzo of Sullivan.

Lake Land College dental hygiene graduates received their pins at the annual pinning ceremony. Graduates from our area who were pinned during the ceremony were Kelly McGill and Nashlynn Williams of Findlay and Carlin Shumard of Sullivan. Williams received the Linda Lee Fletcher Scholarship earlier this year. McGill was also recognized for receiving a Heartland Dental Scholarship earlier in the year. Shumard received the Best Dental Hygienist Award, which was voted on by students in the program.

Lake Land College recognized EMS program graduates at an annual pinning ceremony in May. Preston Ozier from Bethany was pinned by his dad Assistant Fire Chief/Paramedic Phil Ozier. Zachary Homerding from Lovington was pinned by his daughter Raelynn and wife Dakota. Homerding was the recipient of the Top Student Award for highest score in the program and The Shirley Sherwood Award for Excellence in EMS education.

Graduating nurses received their pins at the 2023 Lake Land College Associate Degree Nursing pinning ceremony. Students from our area that received pins were Maria Garza and Shelbi Swartzentruber, both of Arthur; April Decesaro and Savannah McKee, both of Bethany; Alison Beard, Elizabeth Green, CJ Yoder and Sinead Yvonne Weber, all of Sullivan; Scott Fleenor of Windsor. Fleenor also received one of the Associate Degree Nursing Peer Awards for exhibiting excellence in the classroom and in clinical, showing willingness to help others, caring nature, professionalism and spirit.

Sullivan will celebrate the 4th of July with a parade at noon. Lineup begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Sullivan High School parking lot. There is no sign up for the parade, just show up before 12:00 p.m. Activities in the park will begin at 2 p.m. and there will be a watermelon eating contest, sack races and turtle races. Fireworks at dusk.
