Mobile Food Pantry

The University of Illinois Extension in cooperating partnership with sponsors Decatur Catholic Charities and Sullivan United Methodist will hold a mobile food pantry on Wednesday, March 15 from 4 pm to 5 pm at Sullivan Methodist Church, 216 W. Jefferson, Sullivan (across from the firehouse). A mobile food pantry delivers a 2 week supply of food per family in rural communities. Any individual or family that does not have a steady good supply qualifies to receive food. No financial information is required to qualify. This distribution is open to all, not only residents of Sullivan. Sign up by 4:30 pm on Wednesday, March 8 by calling 217-259-2920 or 217-728-8521 during regular business hours. Once your form is completed by phone, you will be given a number to bring with you on the day of distribution. If you lose your number, you will need to bring identification. Food will be distributed according to household size on March 15 from 4 pm to 5 pm at the Methodist Church in parking lot across the street.

Sullivan Preschool Round Up

Each year, Project H.E.L.P. and the Sullivan School District offer free developmental screenings to provide parents the opportunity to discover how their child is developing in the areas of speech, language, concepts and motor skills. This year’s screenings will be on Monday, March 6 and Tuesday, March 7 at First United Methodist Church, 216 West Jefferson Street in Sullivan. Vision and hearing screenings will also be provided, free of charge. For an appointment call Nicole Monroe 217-728-2321 ext. 1122. Signed parent/guardian permission is required. Screening are required for possible enrollment in the Project H.E.L.P. preschool classroom.

Holocaust Presentation

Join The Arthur Public Library on Saturday, March 4th, at 1:00 p.m. for a presentation by Alex Kor, who is the son of Michael and Eva Kor, both survivors of the Holocaust. Alex speaks on a variety of subjects including ethics in medicine, his experiences, and those of his parents. They expect this program to fill up quickly, call 217-543-2037 to reserve your seat.

Celebrity Bartending

Celebrity Bartending is at the Sullivan American Legion Saturday, February 18th. Teams participating this year are the Legion, Widows Sons, Habitat ReStore and St Jude. The fun starts at 5:00 pm and the last team ends at 9:00 pm.

Blood Drive

The Cadwell community will host a blood drive with ImpactLife, the provider of blood components for local hospitals on Tuesday, February 21 from 3 to 7 pm at 1533 CR 1900N, Cadwell inside a donor bus parked by M&E Woodcrafts. There will be a candidate forum on Thursday, February 16 at The Little Theatre On The Square. Doors open at 5:50 pm with a 6:00 pm start time. The forum will feature candidates running for Sullivan City Council in the next election.

Wine Expo/Vendor Fair

The Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary will be hosting a Wine Expo/Vendor Fair on Sunday, Feb. 19th from 1-4 PM. The wineries represented will be Lasata Wines, Fox Creek Vineyards and Press House Winery. Come out and sample some wine and shop their 27 vendors. Most vendors will have cash and carry available that day. They also have some direct sales, amazing artists and unique items. Food will be available to purchase during the event. There is a $5 entrance fee for those 21 and over. This is a fun afternoon and a special fundraiser for the Sullivan Auxiliary.

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
