Community Blood Drive

Tractor Drive

The Findlay Fire Department will be holding a tractor drive on Saturday, August 27. Registration is at 7 a.m. and the drive starts at 8 a.m. at Findlay Middle School. Donations only. Tractors must be capable of running 12 mph. They will stop for lunch at the VFW in Sullivan. All proceeds benefit Okaw Valley Scholarship and other community events. BASO Main Street Car Show

The BASO Main Street Car Show will be Saturday, August 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. in downtown Bethany. There is a $10 entry fee. All makes and models are welcome. Dash plaques to the first 100 entries. Rain date is Sunday, August 21.

SOV Lift-a-Thon Results

This year’s SOV Football Lift-a-Thon was a major success hosted at Second Chance Gym. The SOV football athletes have made some huge gains in strength since last year, as a team they lifted 6,745 more pounds than last year’s Lift-a-Thon, and the pound for pound average amongst our athletes jumped up from 2.64 to 3.23 times their body weight. Aian Fryman had the highest total weight of 805 pounds in bench, squat, and clean combined, and also had the highest pound per pound ratio of 4.95. Mason Booker had the highest total weight increase of 310 pounds since last year’s Lift-a-Thon. If you have not had a chance to help support this year’s Lift-a-Thon and the SOV Football athletes but would like to, there is still time. Mobile Food Pantry

The University of Illinois Extension, in cooperating partnership with Decatur Catholic Charities and Sullivan United Methodist Church, will be having a mobile food pantry on Wednesday, August 24 from 4 to 5 pm at Sullivan United Methodist Church, 216 W. Jefferson, Sullivan, across from the Firehouse. A mobile food pantry delivers a 2 week supply of food per family in rural communities. Any individual or family that does not have a steady food supply qualifies to receive food. No financial information is required to qualify. This distribution is open to all, not only residents of Sullivan. Sign up by Tuesday, August 16 at 4:30 pm by calling the church at 217-728-4436 or 217-855-3933 between 8 am and 1 pm or Mid-Illinois Senior Services, Inc. at 217-728-8521 between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm. Once your form is completed by phone, you will be given a number to bring with you on the day of distribution. If you lose your number, you need to bring identification. The food will be distributed according to household size on Wednesday, August 24 from 4 to 5 pm at the Methodist Church in parking lot across the street.

TP Bike Rides (10 and 20 mile) 7 am registration
Windsor FFA Breakfast 7 am to 10:30 am
Food and craft vendors 10 am to 8 pm
Inflatables/Pony Rides 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Johnny Loo Small Engine Parade 10 am (lineup at 9:30 am)
Jake Schumacher and The Working Class Heros 11 am to 2 pm
Car Show 12 pm to 2 pm
Katzmandu 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Danny Shelton and The Bird Dogs 6 pm to 9 pm
There will also be Bessie Bingo and raffle prizes.

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
