In the April 6 issue of the News Progress there was a story about the recent school forum that took place. In the headline it was incorrectly stated that the district would be replacing the high school. What is actually being considered is the replacement of the middle school building which is 107 years old. Also the $10 million mentioned in the article is total project costs not the cost to maintain the building.

Spores ‘N More will be returning to Windsor on Saturday, April 23 from 11 am to 2 pm. As part of the festival there will be a mushroom competition with awards for biggest and smallest morel mushrooms until April 23. Measurements will include height and circumference around the thickest girth. Height+Circumference=Total Score. Mushrooms with uncut roots will be disqualified. Mushrooms must be morels found in the state of Illinois. Check in station is Lake Shelbyville Project Office, 1989 State Highway, Route 16 in Shelbyville. Hours are Monday-Friday 8 am-4:30 pm, weekends by appointment. Call (217)774-3951 ext 2 for more information. Winner must be present at the announcement on April 23 at 1 pm at the Spores ‘N More soup lunch at the American Legion Hall.

Bethany Fire Department received a page for a structure fire at 2:07 am on Saturday, April 2. It was a garage that was heavily involved. Crews were able to knock the fire down and protect the exposures. The cause is still under investigation at this time. Agencies that responded were Bethany, Sullivan, Mt. Zion, Findlay, Lovington and the Moultrie County Sheriff’s Office.

The Findlay community Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 1 pm behind the Okaw Valley Middle School gym. In case of rain it will be held in the OVMS gym. The hunt is for Pre-K through 5th grade and is sponsored by the First Christian Church in Findlay.

A benefit for Laurie Robbins will be held Saturday, April 9 starting at 4 pm at the Sullivan VFW. Proceeds go to Laurie Robbins to help pay for her cancer treatments. Catering will be provided by Griffins’ and will be pulled pork sandwich with sides from 5 pm until gone, donations graciously accepted. Kids face painting and bake sale will be from 4 to 7 pm, live entertainment from DJ Angel 5 to 7 pm, Good Soup 7 to 8 pm and Shawn Dawson 8 to 9 pm. A silent auction will be held from 4 to 8 pm.
Pre-sale raffles include a lawn and garden raffle with a Agri-Fab utility dump cart with 750 lb capacity and John Deere broadcast spreader, 130 lbs tow spreader. Tickets are one for $10 or 3 for $25.
