Gospel Sing

There will be a gospel sing on Saturday, August 21 at 6 pm at the Allenville Christian Church. Rick Alan King will be performing, a gifted gospel singer from Goodlettsville, TN. Refreshments will follow. A love offering will be taken.

Operation Secret Santa Auction

The Annual Operation Secret Santa Auction will be on August 21 at the Toy Bar from 4 pm to 1 am. The Kirby’s food truck will be there at 5 pm. Look them up on Facebook at Secret Santa’s Silent Auction Group. Pick up for online silent auction is 4 to 6 pm. The live auction will be at 6 pm. Identity Crisis starts at 8 pm. Bring your lawn chairs.

Yoder Named to Dean’s List

Kara Yoder of Arthur has earned dean’s list honors during the Spring 2021 semester at Lee University. Dean’s List recognition is earned by full-time, on-campus students with a semester grade point average between 3.7 and 4.00.

BASO Main Street Car Show

The Bethany Advocates and Support Organization (BASO) and Village of Bethany are sponsoring the BASO Main Street Car Show in downtown Bethany on Saturday, August 21 from 4 to 7 pm. Entry fee is $10. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entries. Trophies will be presented at 6:30 pm, awards being given out will be People’s Choice, Mayor’s Choice, Chief’s Choice and Top Ten Awards-Participant Judging. All makes and model are welcome. There will be a 50/50 raffle. Music will be provided by Nidal Entertainment and food vendors will be Bethany Fire Department, Bethany Diner and ice cream and desserts by the Bethany United Methodist Church.

Relay For Life of Coles and Moultrie

In the Wednesday, July 7 issue of the News Progress we listed the winners of the various competitions at Pack the Park which was held in Wyman Park on July 4. We reported the wrong winner of the Greased Pig contest. The winner was actually Ayden Matheson.

Accident At Howy’s Intersection

On Monday, July 26 at 2 pm there was a vehicle accident between a Freightliner box truck and a passenger car at Howy’s intersection. The box truck was westbound on Bruce Findlay Road and stopped at the intersection with Route 32. Then the truck proceeded into the intersection and a passenger car hit the back end of the box truck on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The driver of the passenger car was transported to Sarah Bush with minor injuries. The Moultrie County Sheriff’s Department and Sullivan Fire and Ambulance responded to the scene.

Douglas-Hart Nature Center Plant A Rainbow

Douglas-Hart Nature Center will be at the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library on Friday, August 6 at 10 am as part of their Summer Reading Program. The program is called Plant A Rainbow. There will be a small live animal and children will get to take home what they make. There is a limit of 35 children that will be allowed to participate in the program. You can sign up by visiting the library or calling 728-7221.
