Pictured above is the Gammill Store in Gays. It was the original home of the 2 story outhouse. The store was built in 1869 by Samuel Gammill, a Civil War officer. It measured 50’ x 50’. The store was on the ground level and the 2nd story was composed of 11 rental rooms. Hence, the need for a 2 story outhouse. Please submit photos to the News Progress for future consideration. Woodbine Park near Long Creek was a favorite gathering place on summer days before our communities had their own parks. Pictured is the Lovington Band and their friends gathered there. Pictured above is the Lovington Cigar Factory. It was located on the empty space in front of the car wash on State St. Lawrence Lorenson is the man in the suit coat behind the counter. The other two men behind the counter are probably Benjamin Alexander, cigar maker and Wilbur Ingle, clerk. The men in front are unknown. Circa1900. Easter Donation



News Progress


The Kirby Foods meat department delivered hams to the Moultrie County Food Pantry on Wednesday the 16th, thanks to a generous anonymous donation. The hams will provide a nice Easter dinner.
