Windsor Students of the Month
Windsor Jr./Sr. High School recently announced their March Students of the Month Addison Montgomery and Chase Bennett.
Addison is the daughter of Scott and Jessie Montgomery. She is currently in 7th grade and is involved in volleyball. She plans to one day own her own farm.
Chase is the son of Jake Bennett. He is currently a senior and is in Art Club. After graduation he plans to attend Eastern Illinois University majoring in film.

The Lake Land College Board of Trustees approved the first tuition increase in four years at the regular March meeting.
The increase follows four years of commitment to hold tuition as steady as possible for students. Tuition and fees remained the same between fiscal years 21 and 22, and then decreased by 7.4% in fiscal year 23. Last year, tuition and fees were rolled back to fiscal year 21 and 22 rates. Read More

Sheep to Yarn to Quilts will return to the Illinois Amish Heritage Center on Saturday, May 4 from 7:00 am until 3:00 pm. The event will feature sheep shearing demonstrations and cleaning, dyeing, and spinning the wool into yarn. Weavers will demonstrate weaving with looms, and quilting displays and demonstrations will complete the journey from Sheep to Yarn to Quilts. Visitors will be invited to try their hand at many of the activities being demonstrated. Read More

Ice to Dust to Grass to Fire

The phrase, “Fly-over country”, often heard these days, implies that there’s nothing much to see in the Midwest, Moultrie’s home. Mile after mile of corn and bean fields do not inspire the uninformed.
Poor things! Any fool can see that the majestic Rocky Mountains or the peaceful sea shores are beautiful, but mountains and our continent’s edges are barriers, too. In contrast, on the Illinois prairie, the “sky’s the limit”. The prairie’s beautiful vastness is liberating and inspiring. It feels like you can see forever and go on forever. When your vision is limitless, anything seems possible.
Early settlers described the virgin prairie as an endless green ocean with wind-blown waves rolling across its surface. Today, the prairie’s vast beauty is enhanced by its close-up details…the occasional patches of prairie grasses and flowers hiding in ditches along its roadsides and railroads, the cattle grazing in isolated oak and walnut tree savannahs edged with blooming wild plum, or the neat farmsteads that dot the landscape. There’s debate whether pecan is pronounced as pe-CAN (as in can of soda) or pe-CAHN, (as in con artist), and it varies depending on where you live. Lancers senior Katie Wildman struck out two and snagged a liner for the first three outs of the visitor’s half of the first—on her way to an eight strikeout performance— and at first look of the Maroon’s pitching, it looked as if ALAH would clobber Champaign Central.

C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity is now accepting applications for its CSBG College Scholarship. Applications will be accepted through May 31, 2024. Applications are available at any C.E.F.S. Outreach Office and on our agency website at www.cefseoc.org. Minimum scholarships will be $1,100.00. To be eligible, applicants must meet Income Guidelines (based on gross income) listed on the application form and provide all documents identified on the application form. The scholarship is only available for those who will be attending an Illinois post-secondary institution and enrolled full-time. Stations of the Cross
The “Stations Of The Cross” event was held on Good Friday in Bethany. This is an annual community event sponsored by the Bethany Ministerial Alliance. Approximately 70 community members came out to honor and commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus by walking as a group up Main Street and stopping at various points to share scripture, readings, prayer and songs. The Ministerial Alliance consists of the following churches: Cumberland Presbyterian, Elim Springs Church of Jesus Christ, United Methodist, Saint Isidore, First Christian and Free Methodist.
