Lucy DelMonico sent me a printed ad that reads: “1 in 2 US adults have diabetes or prediabetes.”
“Is this correct or should it be ‘1 in 2 adults has diabetes’?” she asked.
First of all, that’s a sobering statistic that should encourage more people to participate in Dry January, especially if your drink of choice is a piña colada or a brandy Alexander.

The cold, winter months can pose a risk to our physical health –including our immune system, heart, balance, skin, body temperature and more.

“Winter weather and the extreme low temps that it brings can constrict your blood vessels and if you already suffer from certain conditions this could make that condition worse,” said Dr. Vinil Bhuma, chief medical officer at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital. “Your immune system, heart, skin and potentially your musculoskeletal system are all at risk as we approach winter.” Read More

When was the last time you received a handwritten thank you note? Or sent one to someone else? How did it make you feel? This is a very timely article by Extension Educator Emily Schoenfelder about the importance of sending thank you notes and how to do it. Emily says: Here at the Connection Corner blog, we talk a lot about connection. We also talk a lot about gratitude. So, it should come as no surprise that any opportunity to combine both of these amazing things brings me particular joy. Thank you notes are just that! Why Newspaper Writing Is Important

News Progress Posted on January 4, 2023 by webmasterJanuary 4, 2023

One of the best lectures I’ve heard about writing was at the East Texas Christian Writer’s Conference held at Marshall, Texas a few years ago.
The speaker emphasized that if a writer really wants to develop his talent the best place to start is newspaper writing.

Sullivan Electronics Recycling event much needed by community

News Progress

Photo DM Williamee
Sullivan’s Saturday, June 7th, electronics recycling event, which began 30 minutes earlier than advertised at Wyman Park, drew crowds, ready to appropriately offload broken and outdated electronics. The top item discarded? Flat screen TVs and monitors (200+). The oddest items? A vintage electronic keyboard and a truckload of Christmas lights. Five trailers were filled to capacity and weighing in by tonnage. Those working the event were (L-R): Mike Cain, Brandon Beckwith, Kyler Lane, Clint Thompson, Mike Piper, Alex Bailey, Travis Hugues, and Luke Goss. Also in attendance was the Sullivan Police Department, ensuring residency requirements were enforced.
