Why schedule back-to-school immunizations now?
If your children return to school in August, you don’t want to wait until the last minute to ensure they are ready. You may want to start thinking about their clothes, school supplies, and whatever else they need to begin their school year. The Moultrie County Health Department encourages you also to think ahead and schedule appointments for their vaccinations as you plan for your child’s return to school. If you wait until mid-August, your child may be delayed in getting the vaccines required to start school.

To the Editor:

As an election judge for over a decade, I would like to commend the Moultrie County Clerk, Georgia England, and the professionals in her office who oversee our elections, including the recent primary election. Along with Georgia, Pam Wittkowski, Jamie Helton, and Tasha Stacy are dedicated to making sure that all Moultrie County voters — including those who vote absentee, early, and during the grace period - are informed of their voting rights. They treat all voters with respect, always making sure that eligible voters are allowed to exercise their right to vote.
However, most of the work each election requires goes beyond these people and the four walls of the County Clerk’s office. Elections rely on a small army of workers: those who help set up and tear down each precinct, those who serve as election judges at those precincts, those who troubleshoot problems that occur during the election day, and, finally, those who collect and sort the bags with ballots and voter registration forms after the polls have closed. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), has distributed the fiscal year 2022 School Maintenance Grants, totaling $30 million in state funding, to over 600 eligible applicants. Grantees will use the money to improve and maintain education infrastructure throughout the state of Illinois.
The School Maintenance Grant Program is a dollar-for-dollar state matching grant open to school districts, cooperative high schools, vocational centers, and special education cooperatives. Eligible applicants can receive up to $50,000 to put toward completing proposed maintenance projects.
Sullivan CUSD 300, Okaw Valley CUSD 302 and Windsor CUSD were all awarded grants. Each will receive a $50,000 school maintenance grant.
“By investing in our educational infrastructure, we set Illinois students up for success,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “Our state’s youth spend a majority of their days inside school buildings. It is our duty to make sure those facilities are safe, clean, well-lit, and adequately ventilated. With this funding, our children will learn and grow in sustainable, healthy environments—as they deserve.” Read More
