SHS FCCLA attends FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference

Photo Submitted Sullivan’s FCCLA membership and their leadership at the FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference held at Eastern Illinois University.

Thirty-two members of the Sullivan High School Chapter of FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), along with advisors Ms. Voegel and Ms. Taylor, attended the FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference held at Eastern Illinois University on October 22nd. This conference hosted FCCLA chapters and advisors from the Central Illinois area for a morning of leadership development, student engagement, and collaboration. The meeting was led by Illinois FCCLA State Officers from Shiloh High School and Chrisman High School.

OVSD announces Veterans Day event

Okaw Valley Community Unit School District invites all Veterans and their family members to a Veterans Day program at Okaw Valley High School in Bethany on Tuesday, November 11th. A breakfast will be provided to all who attend, beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the cafeteria, and a short assembly will follow at 9:15 a.m. The assembly will feature the Okaw Valley School District band and chorus students, and a keynote speaker.

Free laundry days in Moultrie County, coordinated by Moultrie County ROSC and sponsors, are as follows:

Thursday, November 20th: Sullivan Wash and Fold, 809 West Jackson Street, Sullivan, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Sponsored by Highway Church of Christ.

Thursday, December 18th: Sullivan Wash and Fold, 809 West Jackson Street, Sullivan, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Sponsored by Sullivan Wash and Fold.

This event runs from 9:00 a.m. until noon, or until funds run out. If you would like to call ahead and see if funds are still available, call (217) 549-7427.

1st: IL 4-H Scholarship Deadline for kids ages 15-19-see details in the Award section of our October newsletter.

8th: Photography Workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Mo-Do Extension Office. Free workshop for ages 8-18th. Sign-up is in the October newsletter.

16th: Sewing workshop. Make a 4-H project and take it with you. From 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Arthur United Methodist Church. Pre-registration required. Free workshop for ages 8-18. Sign up is in the October newsletter.

20th:- Mo-Do Emerging Leaders Meeting, ages 8th grade+ at the Mo-Do Extension Office from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Bethany FD: Community alarm ‘Blitz’

The smoke alarm installation ‘Blitz’ is now in full swing. The Bethany Fire Department, in conjunction with ‘Camp I Am Me’ and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, is helping make homes across Illinois safer. Their crews are out in the Bethany community installing free smoke alarms and sharing fire safety education. If you need alarms installed, contact the Bethany Fire House at (217) 655-3726.

Sullivan Show Choir Boosters: “Fright Nights”

On Friday, October 31st, and Saturday, November 1st, the Sullivan Show Choir Booster will be presenting Fright Nights, with two showings per night at Sullivan Middle School, with full-sized candy bars provided by Country Financial with each paid admission. Show one, “Kids Lighted hour” will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., and from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. will be “Prepare to be Scared.” Tickets may be purchased in advance at both the Sullivan Elementary and Middle Schools for $5.00, or payment can be made at the door for $6.00.

‘Holiday Market’ at First Christian Church

Lovington Trunk or Treat

Last Friday night at Thomas Conn Park in Lovington, the Lovington Park Board hosted a ‘Trunk or Treat’ event for the community. Awards were presented for best decorated golf cart, best decorated trunk, and each age group. The overall winner was Noah Lemarr, dressed as a pirate.

Sullivan High School opens walking track in November

Starting November 3rd, Sullivan Schools will be opening the indoor walking track at Sullivan High School’s new gymnasium to the public (when available) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. Community members may enter through the Unit Office doors, and the track is located on the second floor of the high school gym. Mrs. Rita Florey has volunteered to supervise during these times. The track will be closed on the following scheduled M-W-F dates: November 12th, 19th, 26th, and 28th.
