News Progress Posted on December 3, 2025 by webmasterDecember 3, 2025

2015

Agricultural technology has undeniably come a long way since its humble beginnings, perhaps more so in recent decades than at any other time in its history. But this year could mark the advent of one particular technological wonder in agriculture that, before now, hadn’t quite taken off: the drone.

Sullivan Middle School students greeted the One Book, One Sullivan novel unveiling with a standing ovation on November 25. “Michael Vey-The Prisoner of Cell 25” by Richard Paul Evans was announced to the school-wide assembly following a trailer prepared by the One Book, One Sullivan group for the second year in a row.

The Secret Santa of Sullivan was presented a check of $500.00 from Sullivan IGA last week. Accepting on behalf of the community-wide help organization were Greg Foster and Police Chief John Love. IGA Manager Pat Stinson presented the annual donation. Chief Love said that 100 people had signed up for Secret Santa.

Hour House joins 2025 ‘Gift Responsibly’ campaign

News Progress Posted on November 25, 2025 by webmasterNovember 25, 2025

•November 26, 2025•

The Hour House recently announced its commitment as a participant of the 2025 Gift Responsibly Campaign, joining lotteries and community organizations across North America and around the world to raise awareness about the risks of underage lottery use. The campaign is organized by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and the International Center for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors at McGill University.

Research shows that the earlier a person’s participation or exposure to gambling is in childhood, the more likely they are to develop a gambling problem later in life. Gambling exposure during childhood is often through some form of lottery product, such as lottery tickets or scratch-offs. Often, these items are given to a child by an adult who is unaware of the associated risks.

2025 Moultrie County tentative multiplier announced

News Progress Posted on November 25, 2025 by webmasterNovember 25, 2025

•November 26, 2025•

Moultrie County has been issued a tentative property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to David Harris, director of the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR). The property assessment equalization factor, often called the “multiplier,” is the method used to achieve uniform property assessments among counties, as required by law. This equalization is particularly important because some of the state’s 6,600 local taxing districts overlap into two or more counties (e.g., school districts, junior college districts, fire protection districts). If there were no equalization among counties, substantial inequities among taxpayers with comparable properties would result.

Poppies to honor those who gave all

News Progress

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
