Coles County Man Charged With Armed Violence

Alexander W. Fritz, 25, Charleston has been charged with armed violence, unlawful possession of a stolen/converted motor vehicle, and resisting a peace officer related to an incident which occurred on June 14 in rural Moultrie County. On June 14, Fritz was charged with one count of Armed Violence, a Class X Felony, which alleges that on June 14, while committing the offense of unlawful possession of a stolen/converted vehicle, Fritz was armed with a Ruger rifle. It is also alleged that Fritz resisted attempts by Moultrie County Deputy Robert Kidd to place him under arrest, resulting in an injury to Deputy Kidd. Read More

Thank you to Commissioner Fowler for speaking for those less fortunate.
There are two (2) issues you addressed at the May 24 council meeting that I would like to comment upon. First, your effort to reduce the electric utility for Sullivan residents that are less fortunate and secondly, your comment regarding Sullivan not being able to compete with salaries, health insurance, and retirement offered by large electric corporations. Five contestants were vying for the title of Miss Lovington during the annual pageant. Vying for the title were Amber Atteberry, Misty Williams, Misty Smith, Diana Oliver and Diana Black.
An abundance of rain had put a damper on golf that spring at two of the three local courses. During that past May, 13.2 inches had fallen on the Sullivan area.
The Lovington school board discussed the rising kindergarten size during their meeting. A total of 35 students had been registered for 1996-97 school year and the district was trying to determine if this was a one time increase in class size.
Cadwell Road was being widened and resurfaced from Illinois Rt. 133 to Illinois Route 121 northwest of Sullivan and was closed to through traffic. The pavement was widened to provide two 11-foot-wide traffic lanes and eight-foot-wide bituminous shoulders adjacent to the traffic lanes. Read More

A hearty hello to all y’all after my two-week vacation in Tennessee and North Carolina.
I hope you missed me.
I’m one of those people who love to visit unfamiliar places with unfamiliar customs, unfamiliar dialects and unfamiliar foods.
I strive to make them all familiar to me lickety-split so I feel more a part of the place than a fish out of water.
I didn’t bone up on French, Italian or German in preparation for this trip, but I did burn into my cerebrum that the mountain range is pronounced App-uh-LATCH-in, not App-uh-LAY-shun.
You blow that one, and locals point at you, their mouths agape, and scream like Donald Sutherland did at the end of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” Read More

Secretary of State Jesse White Launching Electronic Automobile Insurance Verification
•June 9, 2021•
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced that automobile insurance verification will be conducted electronically. This upgrade to the state’s mandatory insurance verification program will begin enforcement on July 1, 2021. The program requires insurance companies to work in conjunction with the Secretary of State’s office to confirm electronically that motorists have automobile insurance. This program follows national standards established by the Insurance Industry Committee on Motor Vehicle Administration and is expected to reduce the number of Illinois motorists driving while uninsured.
