IDES Instructs 1099 Workers to Apply for Benefits

The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) today released new instructions for 1099 workers who have lost work due to COVID-19. Workers who believe they may be eligible for new federal benefits under the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program, must first apply for regular unemployment insurance before applying for benefits under PUA when a new application portal opens on May 11, 2020 via the IDES website. Lake Land College Celebrates Virtual Commencement Ceremony

Lake Land College is pleased to announce it will be honoring graduates at the first-ever Lake Land College Virtual Commencement Ceremony on June 18, 2020 at 6 p.m.
Graduates will soon receive a Laker Grad Pack in the mail with celebratory gifts from the college and Alumni Association, as well as a cap, tassel and diploma cover.
Information on how graduates can upload photos and name pronunciation to participate in the virtual ceremony will be shared via Lake Land College email addresses as well as on the website and social media. Graduates are asked to take note of the deadlines which are May 26 for the phonetic submission and June 5 for the registration and photo submission. Read More

New Board Members Named for First Community Bank of Moultrie County

Ray Duncan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Community Bank of Moultrie County is pleased to announce the election of two new board members to the bank’s board of directors. The new directors are Linda Carlton-Huber, and Brad Wheeler, both of Sullivan.
Carlton-Huber is President and Owner of CF & H Insurance Agency, Inc. She has been in the insurance business since 1984, and has owned the agency since 2018. She is also the president of the Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development. Linda resides in Sullivan with her husband Rudy, and has two children and 8 grandchildren.

Wheeler, a lifelong resident of Sullivan, graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1984, and has since been employed by the Earl Walker Company, Inc. in Sullivan. Brad and his wife Tammie have two children and one grandchild.
“Both Linda and Brad will be great additions to First Community Bank of Moultrie County’s Board of Directors. They bring a great deal of experience and knowledge of how to run a business and have long-term interest in what happens in our communities in Moultrie County” said Chairman Duncan.
Wellness Checks are Safe During COVID-19

Older Illinoisans are among those most at risk for health complications related to COVID-19. The state’s posture to increase safety, both of our residents and our first responders, has visually changed the landscape of our state. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), along with partners from Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA), Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM), Illinois State Police (ISP) and the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association want to remind residents of the following safety measure put in place in light of COVID-19.
Police, fire and EMS personnel conducting requested wellness checks on seniors, the disabled or any other resident will be dressed in proper personal protective equipment that has been deemed appropriate by their local jurisdiction. This change in appearance is a safety precaution. The personal protective equipment is designed to protect the resident and our first responders. It’s also important to keep in mind that all first responders should be able to present proper identification.
“Seniors should not feel anxious about answering the door as proper precautions are being taken by first responders to ensure the safety of residents and themselves. If someone still feels unsafe opening the door, they can communicate through a glass door or window to let the responders know they are well. Rest assured, the person may be unrecognizable under all the protective gear, but is still the same dedicated individual in uniform that is always in their community protecting citizens,” said State Fire Marshal Matt Perez.
