Stacey Knight-Davis, Professor and Head of Library Technology Services at Eastern Illinois University’s Booth Library, has been selected to receive the 2019 Illinois Library Association Reference Services Award, given annually for excellence in providing assistance to library users as they seek and use information. The Reference Services Award will be presented at an Awards Luncheon October 22, during the 2019 Illinois Library Association Annual Conference in Tinley Park.
“I’m honored to have been recognized for this award,” Knight-Davis said. “While this is an individual award, all of the projects mentioned in the nomination were team projects. Collaboration, in the library, on campus, and with other universities, made these projects successful. I am grateful for my colleagues, delighted that they nominated me for this award, and I look forward to future partnerships to support and advance teaching, learning, and librarianship.” Read More

With high temperatures trending in recent weeks, those spending time outside should know the signs that they are getting overheated and need to get out of the elements.
“There are about two and a half patients out of 100,000 who seek care for heat related illness,” said Dr. John Rinker, Chief Medical Officer, OSF HealthCare Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center. “Certainly in the summer months it’s more common. You’ll see it a lot more surrounding people participating in high risk activities: people that play sports, so think high school kids who are otherwise healthy, but they’re doing two-a-day football practices or they’re playing baseball out in the summer. They are certainly at higher risk for heat exhaustion.”
According to Dr. John Rinker, Chief Medical Officer at OSF HealthCare Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac, it’s important to not only recognize the risk factors and symptoms of heat-related illness and injury, but what to do if you start exhibiting them as well. Read More

25 Years Ago This Week

Tony Bragg and Mike Lowe are helping Freeman Wildman spruce up the fence around Lovington’s Keller Cemetery. The three lined up with their brushes looked like a scene from Tom Sawyer.
There was an informational, political coffee held at Hight State Bank in Dalton City. The event gave community members an opportunity to speak with Republican candidates running for office. Those attending were J.E. Miller, Brent Winters and several county contenders.
Rodgers and Hart’s Babes In Arms opens soon at the Little Theatre-On the Square. The musical comedy takes the audience back stage at a summer stock theatre to witness the lives and escapades of a group of aspiring young actors.
The Bethany Broncos are proud of their first place trophies they earned with their 11-10 victory over Sullivan in a 4th of July tournament. Team members are Chris Bay, Joel Blair, Nathan Stollard, Brandon Stollard, Mike Holthaus, Brandon Patrick, Wes Wise, Curt Marshall and Shane Russell. The team is coached by Bret Marshall. Read More
