Meaning of the Last Supper of Jesus with His Disciples…

News Progress Posted on April 17, 2019 by webmasterApril 17, 2019

•April 17, 2019•
April 18 this year will be the sixth reenactment that Sullivan First United Methodist Church has performed a Passover event during Holy Week. Perhaps some reflection is in order on why this event is so important in life of Christians today.
The first record in our Bible of this remarkable supper is in Apostle Paul’s first letter to the Church in Corinth. All four Gospels later mention this powerful event.
Maundy Thursday refers to a “mandate” or “commandment” and is the fifth day of Holy Week. The day is sometime referred to as Holy Thursday in our United Methodist tradition.
Maundy refers to the “commandment” in the Gospel of John when Jesus gives the disciples a new commandment to “love one another as I have loved you.” This book does not include the Institution of Holy Communion, but it does tell of Jesus washing the feet of the disciples. Read More

Poppies to honor those who gave all

News Progress

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
