Elizabeth Inman of Sullivan received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing degree from McKendree University during commencement exercises held May 11.
Inman is the daughter of Jill Inman of Sullivan and Michael Inman of Charleston and a 2014 graduate of Sullivan High School.
This year marked McKendree’s 179th commencement exercises. A total of 663 degrees including 152 masters and 479 bachelors degrees were bestowed.
Founded in 1828, the historic Lebanon campus is 25 miles from downtown St. Louis.

Nursing Home Week Celebrations
As part of the American Nursing Home week celebration residents at Sullivan Health Care got dressed up and had a prom Thursday. It was a week of celebration with Western Day and Sports Day preceding Prom for the 75 attendees. After prom? What else but Hawaiian Day on Friday.

The Lake Shelbyville U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is gearing up for a busy Memorial Day weekend. Campground programs are on the agenda for Saturday evening, and rangers will be on beach and lake patrol throughout the weekend.

Lions Club Scholarship Award
The Sullivan Lions Club presented Sullivan High School senior Esther Miller with the John Ruscin Award. The $1000 scholarship is in honor of SMS coach and teacher John Ruscin. Dear Editor,
There is so much mistaken in “Jesus Made Adam and Eve, Not Adam and Steve.” It appears this statement was intentionally crafted to be political, divisive and discriminatory.
That’s a great deal of ignorance and damage to pack into only nine words. Heaven help any child who reads such a hateful message.
If we rely on Genesis, Adam and Eve were created by God, not Jesus. If we’re also going by the Bible, God made Adam, Eve and Steve. Aren’t all of God’s creatures worthy of compassion, understanding and love?
Jesus even mentions homosexuality in Matthew 19:11-12, referring to those “who have been so from birth.” He goes further saying, “Let anyone accept this who can.”
Apparently, some modern day churches struggle with accepting people for who they are. We see this in the recent decision by the United Methodist Church.
Jesus was clear that the judgments that we use against others will be the standard applied to ourselves. Read More
25 Years Ago This Week
The village of Lovington was named a winner in the 1994 Governor’s Home Town Awards Program. Roger Brust, president of the Lovington Area Development Committee, said that the honor from the Illinois Dept. of Commerce and Community Affairs was given in recognition of the village’s success in establishing the Lovington Community Health Clinic.
Julie Wilkerson of Sullivan traveled to Rome, Italy with the St. John’s Catholic Chapel Choir from Champaign. The choir served as the principal choir during a solemn Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica and sang a selection during a Papal Audience with Pope John II.
Three Sullivan students won first or second place awards for work exhibited at the Hickory Point Mall in Forsyth. David Seeley won second place in sculpture, Jamie Jent won first place in drawing and Kris Garner won first place in painting. Art created by Sullivan students was displayed at Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library. Ribbons were awarded in painting, drawing and three-dimensional work. Blue ribbon winners were Natalie Wright, Terri Dodd, Shannon Scheer, Jamie Jent, Brandi Pauley, Steve Green, Jody Nolen, and Kristy Palmer. Red ribbons went to Lesly Donoho, Heather Hector, Amber Weger, Nikki Larkin, Jeremy Piper, Natalie Wright, Jason Fleshner, Angie Husketh, Jody Martin, David Seeley and Sandi Pauley. White Ribbons were given to Richard Grice, Amber Weger, Jill Wilcoxen, Cuyler Robinson, Josh White, Sean Jenkins, and Lesly Donoho. Read More
