Prolonged summer heat and humidity in Central Illinois pose a threat to the health and well-being of Central Illinois residents. The Moultrie County Health Department reminds residents to remain informed and prevent heat-related illnesses, stay weather aware, and avoid mosquito-borne diseases.
Prolonged Heat and Humidity: A Dangerous Combination- Central Illinois is enduring one of its most intense summers in years. A persistent heat dome has trapped scorching temperatures and humidity across the region, with heat index values soaring above 105° on several days.
This “oven‑like” atmosphere has been intensified by corn sweat. Corn sweat refers to the moisture released by corn fields during pollination, which contributes to the “mugginess” in the environment. The elevated moisture content of the atmosphere also reduces our body’s ability to cool down effectively.

Abagail Dean, a member of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapter at Sullivan High School, recently competed at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference (NLC) held in Orlando, FL from July 5th to July 9th. The conference welcomed over 10,000 students, educators, and guests from across the nation for a week of competition, leadership development, and career exploration.

Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will hold its August Quarter Auction on Wednesday, August 13th. The event will be held at the Sullivan American Legion Post #68.
The organization of the month is the Eastview Terrace Activity Department. Eastview Healthcare & Senior Living is a long-term care facility as well as a rehabilitation-to-home facility. Their activity department goes above and beyond to keep their residents’ minds and bodies active. A few of the activities include bingo, cooking club, craft days, and social events. They are always trying new activities and love it when they have volunteers come in to do activities with them. Their goal is to make sure that their residents have the best activities to enhance their quality of life.

The Cadwell Community will host a Community Blood Drive with ImpactLife, the provider of blood components for local hospitals. The blood drive will be from 3:15 to 6:45 pm on Tuesday, August 19th at 1533 CR 1900N, inside the Donor Bus @ M&E Wood Crafts. Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission form available through www.bloodcenter.org) and weigh more than 110 pounds. A photo ID is required to donate. Blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour. Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure may be accepted as eligible donors. Nominating petitions for candidates planning to run in the March 17, 2026, General Primary Election will be available in Moultrie County Clerk Linda Qualls’ office beginning Tuesday, August 5, 2025. This is also the first day to circulate nomination documents for candidates of established political parties and independent candidates.
Monday, October 27, 2025, through Monday, November 3, 2025, candidates can file original nomination documents with the County Clerk’s Office. Office hours are Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On the last day of filing, November 3, 2025, office hours will be extended to 5:00 p.m.
The county-wide offices up for nomination are full terms for County Clerk & Recorder, Sheriff, Treasurer, and four-year terms for County Board members with five seats available. Precinct Committeemen will be elected during the primary as well.

4 - Pork burger/bun, German potato salad, baked beans, and fruit.
5 - Ham and beans, copper carrots, pineapple, cornbread, and dessert.
6 - Meatloaf, sour cream/chive mashed potatoes, carrots, tomato salad, and roll.
7 - Chicken salad sandwich, tomato basil soup, tangy coleslaw, and fruit dessert.
