Letter to the Editor2: 7-25-2018
The action by the Moultrie County Board to place an Advisory Question of Public Policy on the November 6, 2018 General Election ballot concerning individual rights of citizens currently guaranteed to all U.S. citizens by the Constitution seems to be only political in nature.
Every Illinois citizen has the right and responsibility to discuss his or her individual opinion about any legislative actions desired with any state and federally elected representative. Read More
Lovington Changes Solicitation Ordinance
•July 25, 2018•
Lovington Village Board met June 11 deciding to include a “no knock” paragraph in the existing Village Solicitation Ordinance and increase the solicitation fee to $100.
Trustees Brenda Wood, Pam Anklam, Gary Clem and April Daily voted to refer the changes to the village attorney.
The attorney is also in the process of rewriting the Ordinance on Dangerous and Vicious Dogs. Read More

Sarah Bush Lincoln’s Mobile Mammography Services will be at SBL Sullivan Clinic on August 7.
The Mobile Mammography van helps provide mammograms to women who may not otherwise have access to, or be able to afford these life-saving preventive screens. Women who qualify will receive their mammogram free. Read More

Sullivan resident Wilbur Donnell matched five of six numbers in the Illinois Lottery’s $24 million Lotto drawing and won $2,411. Donnell said he purchased five quick pick tickets at Kerr McGee gas station at the coaxing of friend Jibby Florini. He had a cool response when learning of his fortune and said had it been the $24 million, it would have been a different story.
At least three Moultrie County National Guardsman who serve with Company A out of Mattoon are helping with the Mississippi River flood relief, while the 634th Forward Support Batallion from Sullivan just received requests for volunteers from its unit. Neil Elder, Scott Reed and Maxey Cole all of Sullivan are working in Kinderbrook. They have been sandbagging the levy and residing at a local high school. Read More

County Tax Sale

Moultrie County, as Trustee, has completed their tax deed proceedings on real estate properties that were delinquent for 2014 and prior real estate taxes. The County, as Trustee, will now offer for sale the real estate obtained to the public. They will offer approximately nine items through a sealed bid auction sale. All sealed bids must be in the Moultrie County treasurer’s office located in the Moultrie County Courthouse, 10 S. Main Street, Suite 10 in Sullivan no later than the close of business of August 24, 2018. Read More

Mary Jo Myers Booker received the Wisconsin Council for Exceptional Children’s Clarissa Hug Teacher of the Year Award. Myers, a 1978 SHS graduate, is speech pathologist at Weyauwega-Fremont School District and is recognized as an innovator with the Early Childhood program and serves as leader of the school’s Autism Effectiveness Team. Her level of innovation working with students on the Autism Spectrum has prompted her to present at consortium training sessions throughout the state. Her bachelor’s degree in communications disorder is from Southern Illinois University, master’s in audiology from the University of Wisconsin, Osh Kosh with additional language and speech credits from Michigan University in Kalamazoo. She has been at W-F Schools since 2012 and is the daughter of Ethel Myers of Sullivan.
