The annual “Students for the Information Age” TECH 2018 event will be held 9:30-11:30 a.m.Thursday, May 10 and from 1-3 p.m. at the Illinois State Capitol building in Springfield where hundreds of students and teachers will represent schools from throughout the state.

From elementary to the high school classrooms, TECH 2018 highlights the crucial role that technology plays in education -- ranging from increases in collaboration and critical thinking, to promoting learning beyond the limits of the school day -- by creating a space for students to share their learning and innovative uses of devices, the internet, and digital curriculum.  Read More

Remember When? 4-18-2018

News Progress Posted on April 18, 2018 by webmasterApril 18, 2018

25 Years Ago This Week

The winter storm of the century rocked the southern states. Former Sullivan residents tell of their experiences. Leesa Willis and Charles W. Shuman had more than 10 inches of snow in their area. Willis tells of difficulty getting a flight while Shuman, of Virginia, gets a laugh at his area’s inability to handle the snow. Jon White of Marietta, Ga. says his town is basically shut down.

Sullivan elementary students get books made just for them by volunteers through the RSVP and CEFS Outreach program. They were distributed by Bev Puleo. The books were entitled SEAL (students excited about learning). The text was written by Mary Lou Kidwell and illustrated by Sandi Traxler.

Bethany students earned 13 firsts in music contests. Girls’ quartet made up of Lindsay Patrick, Jessika Gaither, Martne McCabe and Angie Duncan took first with their performance of Rock-a-bye-baby. Four soloists took first place: Jodi Armer, Wendy Munch, Jessika Gaither and Angie Duncan. Four groups received firsts for their vocal ensembles: Bob Hamilton and Wendy Munch duet; the senior trio of Bob Hamilton, Martne McCabe and Jessika Gaither; girls ensemble of Gaither, Jodi Armer, Wendy Munch, Lindsay Patrick, Micki Winskill, Teri Zimmer and Erin Yarnell. In the band contest a saxophone quartet made up of Amy Bagley, Kristen Wicker, Scott Seeley and Bob Hamilton took first place. Other first place winners were Lindsay Patrick for French horn and Angie Duncan for piano. Read More

•April 18, 2018•

Bauer Financial, Coral Cables, Fla., the Nation’s Premier Bank Rating firm, is announcing that First Community Bank of Moultrie County in Sullivan has secured its highest, 5-Star rating. (a five star rating indicates the bank excels in areas of capital adequacy, profitability, asset quality and much more.)

“A lot of things have changed since the Great Recession,” reflects Karen L. Dorway, president of BauerFinancial. “Technology, in particular, has changed the way people bank, but it will never fireplace a bank’s knowledge of its customers. Community banks, like First Community Bank of Moultrie County, have the upper hand on that. Through personal interaction, they can meet their customers’ needs today while anticipating them for tomorrow.” Read More

Poppies to honor those who gave all

News Progress

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
