Windows to Heaven Celebration of Life

The annual Windows to Heaven celebration of life, a memorial program that honors children who have died, will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 14, in chapel at Sarah Bush Lincoln.

This service is for those families who have suffered the loss of a child. Inspired by a Swedish children’s song, Windows to Heaven is a series of beautifully hand-crafted windows from which an artist’s rendition of the brilliant night sky filled with stars can be seen. SBL Holds Health Screenings At Sullivan Senior Center

SBL Lincolnland Home Care and Lincolnland Hospice will conduct a free blood pressure clinic from 8:30 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Senior Center, Sullivan.  For more information, call Lincolnland Home Care at 1-800-879-3212.

SBL Lincolnland Home Care, Lincolnland Hospice and Lincolnland Home Medical will sponsor bingo from 9 – 10 a.m. following the blood pressure clinic.

Local Author Speaks at Art in Equality Convention

Local author, Ariana R. Cherry will be speaking at the first annual Art in Equality Convention on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Savoy Recreation Center in Savoy, Illinois. It is a convention and film festival focusing on Equality for all: LGBTQ, all races, all religions, all sexes. “We are ALL human, let’s stop the hate. Annual High School Art Competition Entry Time

Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-15) is now accepting entries for the 2018 Congressional Art Competition. The contest is open to high school students in the 15th Congressional District. Entries are due by May 4.

“This is an annual competition that we are pleased to participate in,” Shimkus said. “The winning artwork from my district will be displayed in Washington, DC, in a tunnel that connects the Cannon House Office Building to the Capitol. Thousands of staff and visitors will see the artwork each day.” Read More

SES Reads Across America

Sullivan Elementary School celebrated Read Across America by honoring Dr. Seuss the week of February 26. Students participated in dress up days based on different Dr. Seuss books each day, and different activities took place throughout the week.

Stop Everything and Read for 15 minutes was held Monday. Everyone in the building stopped what they were doing and read a book.

Tuesday students decorated crazy socks that were displayed in the hallway.

Students did partner reading with students from different grade levels on Wednesday, and Thursday they were allowed to wear crazy hats.  Read More

Halestorm and Mastodon to co-headline

Fairgoers should get ready to rock on Saturday, August 11 at the Illinois State Fair.  Halestorm and Mastodon will be co-headlining on the grandstand stage.

Halestorm, one of the most iconic bands in modern rock, released their self-titled album in 2009, which led to their second album The Strange Case Of… released in 2012 that featured the Grammy award-winning single for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, “Love Bites (So Do I).”  Read More

Operation Safe Kids Offered to Area Students

Poppies to honor those who gave all

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
