25 Years Ago This Week

A Children’s Safety house is being constructed for the members of the Okaw Fire Protection Association. The house will be used to show community children how to safely exit a smoke filled house. The project is being overseen by committee co-chairmen Arlon Long of Sullivan Fire Protection Dist. and Merlin Yoder of Arthur Fire Dept.

A steer on the loose kept Sullivan city officers, sheriff’s deputies and Sullivan city workers busy for approximately four hours. The steer, owned by Frank Elzy, escaped from Sullivan Veterinary clinic where it had been taken for vaccinations. It was captured when two city employees squeezed it between two pick-up trucks. During the chase the steer collided with Sheriff Jeff Thomas’ police car and put a dent in it.

Lindsay Patrick of Bethany is one of the members of the 4-H group traveling to Washington D.C. this summer on the Citizens Washington Focus trip. Patrick is the daughter of Stan and Judy Patrick. Read More

Poppies to honor those who gave all

News Progress

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
